My elephant ears were doing well just very limp i tried to feed them and water them and by the time i went to water them again the stems were rotten and just fell off so now my planter is empty… should i pull up the bulbs or let them try to resprout? #sadday #ElephantEar #NewPlantMom #
Could you please show us a photo?
Originally they looked something like this
And now all the bulbs in my pot look like this and were mushy
@YernRhodotus46 my dad has many elephant plants, I will ask him about this and get back to you as soon as I can!
@LikelyChaya33 thank you so much for!!!! I did sprinkle them with cinnamon to try to kill the infection but im so worried about my babies
@YernRhodotus46 of course, i probably won’t get back to you between 4-7pm PST but I’ll definitely get back to you
@YernRhodotus46 I’ll also ask another person with Elephant Ear plants to see if she knows as well
@LikelyChaya33 thank you so much!!
@YernRhodotus46 do you know what type of elephant ear it is?

My dad says don’t leave the corms in the pot without checking them. Gently dig them up.
Inspect each corm:
Firm and solid: It’s probably still alive. Let it dry for a day or two, trim off any rotten roots, and replant it in fresh, well-draining soil. Soft, mushy, or foul-smelling: It’s rotted and won’t recover. Discard it.
If the plant was growing outdoors and the season is still warm, a healthy corm may produce new growth after replanting. If it’s nearing dormancy, it may simply rest until the next growing season. The description—“the stems were rotten and just fell off”—strongly suggests the problem started at or below the soil line, which is a classic sign of rot rather than underwatering.

So from what my dad said I’d gently dig up the corms and check them. If they’re still firm, let them dry for a day or two and replant them in fresh, well-draining soil. If they’re soft or mushy, they’ve unfortunately rotted and won’t regrow. Good luck—I hope at least one is still healthy!
@LikelyChaya33 i dont know which kind i got them at costco, but okay perfect thats what i did!! They were still healthy i managed to get them up in time and i think im going to
@LikelyChaya33 i think im going to get them a smaller pot so its not so much moisture being held until the roots start to rebkund
