Hello everyone, it’s 95 degrees here in West Central Florida today and it’s “plenty hot”. It looked like a lot of my fellow plant people liked the Cypress tree photo that I posted. Many of the older Cypress trees grow these big cavities in them and they also have what are called Cypress knees. It has been debated if the Cypress knees stabilize the trees near the water or help aerate the roots. I think it’s a little bit of both anyway here is a photo of a Cypress knee, which is actually about a foot in height, It looks like an ogre with the way, the light was hitting it. I have many photos of Cypress knees, which I will post from time to time. @Malagueña Which part of the tree in the first pic is supposed to be the knee? round just below where the tree is splitting looks more like an eye 👁️??
Hi , they are both Cypress knees from different trees. The one on the left is about 6 feet high and the largest Cypress knee I have seen to date. The one on the right is only about a foot tall. Neither one is the main part of the tree. The one on the left, I took at an unnamed swamp lake in the Withlacoochee State Forest. The one on the right was taken in the green swamp wilderness preserve 😁
@Ms.Persnickety , here are more examples of Cypress knees
