Omg she’s gorgeous! I’m always so jealous of all of you that get to live someplace so beautiful and with such a range of growing abilities! 🤩 Your beautiful lady is incredible!
My ginger plant is in a pot and did really well for a month or so but lately I have worm holes and colors are faded and no longer vibrant.
I didn’t know they actually grow in the dirt! Yours are beautiful!!
@Idplantthat Gosh, thanks, that’s very nice to hear! And isn’t that always the case because I am very envious of people who can grow gardens with plants like tulips, lily of the valley, or succulents. But yes, we can easily grow most tropicals and those considered ‘houseplants’, inside or out here and they’ll generally thrive. I do enjoy that.

This particular plant is growing around several trees in my neighborhood, some in sun, others in very deep shade, yet they are all flourishing and just continue producing new pups, essentially never dying. This is my neighbor’s tree where I pulled my plants from. You literally just set them on the ground and that’s it!
@RobustTupeia98 It looks like you also have Celosia and Mexican Petunias growing in there, right? The celosía could grow well on their own in that pot, but even if you planted only the petunias or lilies on their own in it, each would still quickly outgrow that pot size because each tend to grow and proliferate quickly.

Both of these plants grow all around my yard. My husband pulled up some ginger lily roots from our yard several years ago and we put them at the edge of the pond and this is what that patch looks like now. It has really spread out and the plants grow to be so tall that towards the end of summer they are just flopping over like this from their weight and height. This patch is really good for pond life, and these flowers smell absolutely incredible, so I don’t really mind it - but it doesn’t look great as they start browning and dying.

Just saying, these plants have the ability to quickly grow very large, so you can just move it to a container by itself and it will recover nicely and quickly, I’m sure! I’ve never grown them in containers but they are super forgiving.
@RobustTupeia98 Thank you!! 🥰These bromeliads are epiphytic so their roots are just to hang on to things, they get nutrients through their “cup”. This particular type is so unbelievably easy that you literally just set the plant on the ground, or on a palm tree, as I did, and they will begin growing and producing pups quite quickly. I put them in their new spots just 4 weeks ago! So amazing! I definitely understand why people call it the fool proof plant because it seriously couldn’t be any easier! 😍
