Why is my girl growing up instead of down? Iv noticed this on more then one of my pothos. Not all are hanging and some fall onto an entertainment center with a grow light. What do I do. I want them to trail.
Mabey the vines aren’t long enough just yet but I’m not too sure.
Mine do that too, they tend to do that to try to get as much light as they can. Once the branch grows heavier with more leaves, itll start to look more like it is trailing since it will be weighed down enough by the amount of leaves. It is common :)
I also notice that the leaves that are trailing are green and not variegated? Assuming that you didnt put two different kinds of pothos in one pot, that happens because it needs more sufficient light. When variegated plants have enough light, that’s when theyre able to compromise some of their green, but if they are trying to get more light, theyll be fully or mostly green to soak up as much as possible. That also would explain why the new leaves are reaching so far upwards like that
@OrganicPeony29 To encourage a Pothos plant to trail, ensure it has adequate light, water, and nutrients, and consider providing it with a larger pot or a hanging basket to promote downward growth. Here's a more detailed guide:
Light:
Pothos plants thrive in bright, indirect light, so place them near a window where they can receive morning or evening sun, but avoid direct, harsh sunlight.
Water:
Water your Pothos when the top inch or two of the soil feels dry, and ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent root rot.
Nutrients:
Fertilize your Pothos regularly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Pot and Support:
Larger Pot: Repot your Pothos into a larger pot to encourage it to grow and trail down the sides.
Hanging Basket: Consider placing your Pothos in a hanging basket, which allows the vines to cascade naturally.
Moss Pole: If you want to train your Pothos to climb, you can provide it with a moss pole or trellis, and encourage it to attach its aerial roots to the support. Pruning:
If your Pothos is growing too long, you can prune the vines to encourage bushier growth and more trailing stems.
Propagate:
You can also propagate your Pothos by taking stem cuttings and rooting them in water or soil, allowing you to start new plants and potentially have more trailing vines. Happy Growing!
It will start to trail for sure once it grows and matures. The leaves will get heavy enough and long enough .
Pothos are climbing vines. They're supposed to climb in nature.

If you want them to trail just let them grow for a while. The trailing is due to the stem being too long and heavy, making it fall over.
