How do I treat pests? I recently picked up two colocasias from the grocery store and they came with what I assume to be fungus gnats πŸ₯² I currently have them in my bathroom with no other plants (besides an emotional support fake cactus) and have sticky’s on them. I’m scared I will kill the plant trying to treat the pests. Should I repot & wash the roots/ plant? Should I spray them with something & hope for the best? I have lots of plants but I have never had a pest problem beforeπŸ˜… #Colocasia #PestControl #help fungusgnats">#fungusgnats

Gorgeous Colocasia!! So first up, make sure not to over water your plant and that it has drainage holes. Fungus gnats eat fungus so if there's less food for them to eat, it will help! I would also recommend adding rice husks to the top of your soil, like you would mulch. It prevents the larvae from pushing up through the soil once they hatch. I included a pic of one of my plants with rice husks. Keep those sticky traps though, to catch the adults. Here's a good article with additional info:

@JesssJungle thank you!! I will have to track down some rice husks!
@Hermit you can order them online! Got mine on Amazon. :)
@JesssJungle I’ll be doing the same! 😊
@Hermit just an fyi : those are not Colocasias. They're Caladiums. And they are extremely gorgeous 😍 a trick you can try to help get rid of the fungus gnats is sprinkle a liberal amount of regular ground cinnamon on the soil.
Is rice husk good to put on the top of soils for any plant? What’s its purpose? I’ve seen these on some photos and I was wondering what it was used for.
@Lifeis2short oops thank you! The tag said elephant ear & google brought me to colocasia as did this app but after a quick google of caladium you’re def correct! πŸ˜‚ I’ll try the cinnamon as well 😊
