I just love her so much!! I found her at Walmart a few weeks back and got her on a whim, she’s the first bigger plant I’ve purchased and I think she’s so beautiful and I love her so much 😭💛 I hope she thrives!! #ficusmoonshine
2ft to light, direct
10” pot with drainage
Last watered 3 weeks ago
She’s a beauty, I love the coloration!! Congrats! Here’s some good info for you, just fyi. 🪴💕. To keep your Ficus elastica 'Shivereana' vibrant and healthy, follow these essential care guidelines: ☀️ LightBright, indirect light is absolutely critical. Place it near an east- or west-facing window. Avoid direct sun, which burns the pale leaves. Low light causes it to lose its unique speckling and turn solid green. 💧 Watering- water only when the top 2 inches of soil feel completely dry. Drench the soil thoroughly until water runs out the bottom. Empty the saucer immediately so the roots never sit in water .Reduce watering frequency during the slower growing winter months. 🌡️ Environment- maintain temperatures between 65°F and 85°F. Keep it away from cold drafts, air vents, and heaters. It appreciates moderate to high humidity (above 40-50%). Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth monthly to remove dust and improve light absorption. 🌱 Soil & Fertilizer- use a chunky, well-draining potting mix (e.g., standard soil mixed with perlite and orchid bark). Feed with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half-strength once a month during spring and summer. Do not fertilize in winter.
@SillyPlantGirl thank you! She’s still in the pot she came in from the store - would you recommend a repot? (It’s a black nursery pot inside the purple decorative pot, I take her out of the decorative pot to water bc only the nursery pot has drainage so I wait til she’s done dripping to put her back). I prefer to have my plants in clear nursery pots so I can see their roots easier but I don’t want to stress her if it’s best to wait a while
If it were me- I would leave her alone! She looks super healthy. If you see roots coming out if the nursery pot- that’s when I would repot. (I’m not saying this outloud … but I’d also repot if it were to get a big infestation 🫣🫣 lol. ) I have a lot of decorative pots and they aren’t necessarily great for certain plants- so I do nursery pots inside and take out your water too. Lastly- do you know what kind of soil it’s in? That’s the only reason I would repot right away- if it’s in a dense soil- because ficus need a really chunky aroid mix (60%soil, 30% perlite, 10%orchid bark)
@plantstyle so beautiful!!
@SillyPlantGirl that’s the only thing I’m not sure of, she’s in whatever soil she was in when I bought her. She looks great and she has new leaves coming out so I think I’ll wait a bit unless I see signs that she needs a change, but I’ll make sure that whenever the time comes I use a chunky mix for her. Thank you for the insight!
@JessGee thank you
