Ok. So lately I've been thinking about Philodren hybrids. What plant person wouldn't like to cross breed their own hybrid plant. What would the babies look like if a Florida white ghost and a Royal Queen look like? Or if a Black Cherry had leaves like a Ring of fire πŸ”₯? Have you ever thought about what your signature hybrid plant would be? It doesn't have to be a philodren? What two plants would you cross breed if you could? @A1duzit @Boymom-plantmom @DreamMachine @Idplantthat @debbiedo @SuperbRaspfern @MamaLinne @4eva @Miawilliams @fitbrowallia @maci.in.bloom @MariansOasis @zenfrogzero @CutePolypremum @LpcRookie @ilovemyplants @refinedsandwort @Idplantthat @SuperbRaspfern @sillyplantgirl @slyvie @livelychaya33 @acehoyarosita58
I would definitely crossbreed a orchid and a cactus together because orchid are super pretty and cactuses are easy to take care of
I haven’t gone down that road but would certainly be interested to who would cross what with what !! πŸ‘
As a succulent person with an obsession for deep green plants I would love to hybridize Dudleya lanceolata with Echeveria Galaxy Blueβ€”somehow. I’m no expert but apparently it’s very difficult because they are structured differently. They are both in the Crassulaceae family but one of the huge differences is that Dudleyas form a caudex and can live for over 100 years and Echeveria do not form a caudex trunk and generally have shorter life spans than Dudleya. They also have different growing seasons so the seeds would have to be collected at separate times of the year. Korean hybridizers have rarely been successful but it is indeed possible and has happened. I have like 100 dudleya seeds though and a Dudleya Candelabrum so I’ll be able to try myself at some point lol.
@ZenfrogZero I had to go look that dudleya plant up. It's pretty 😍. I wish I could keep an echeveria alive. If you ever do please show us the results.
@Miawilliams @ZenfrogZero that cactus is so cute and that echeveria look so dangerous 😳
@planthoe40 For sure! I’m in college right now and I would love to get my master’s in horticulture or honestly anything related to botany/plant science! πŸ’šπŸͺ΄
I made mine my phone wallpaper. It's so pretty.
@planthoe40 That’s so cool! I didn’t know Gemini AI could do that! Very beautiful (hypothetical) plants! πŸ’šπŸ€©
@ZenfrogZero I didn't either. I'm not good with technology and this is a new phone with stuff on it my other phone didn't have. I really didn't know what Gemini was.
@planthoe40 I love that you found that out! I tried doing this with Copilot AI and it didn’t work as well as this. Thank you for showing the pictures to help visualize the beauty of these potential plants!
Combining a monstera + nerve plant would be epic.
@DreamMachine Will probably know I think she’s done something similar.
@planthoe40 Wow I would definitely buy that hahaha
@Miawilliams try Christmas cactus or false Christmas cactus!
@ILoveMyPlants oh, not I πŸ˜… I’m growing an anthurium from seed right now, but that’s as far as I’ve made it!
@DreamMachine have you made a hybrid plant?
@Slyvie a dramatic monstera? πŸ€” At least you would know when to water it.
@planthoe40 lolll true I didn’t really think about how dramatic nerve plants areπŸ˜‚ but you would know when to water at least
@ZenfrogZero a prince of orange cross bred with a white princess philodren. Now that's pretty. Maybe I could keep that alive. For some reason prince of oranges hate me.
@Slyvie 🀣🀣 let me see if AI can give us a picture of what that might look like. Brb
@Slyvie I went with a jungle mint monstera. Never knew they existed until Etsy. But that's kinda cute. One leaf looks like a nerve plant leaf and the other look like the jungle mint
@planthoe40 that’s so cool! I would def buy if it was in store!!
@Slyvie it looks to me like it would be short and bushy instead of massively huge like a monstera.
@planthoe40 I have not yet made any hybrids πŸ˜…
First thing that came to mind… Bioluminescence succulents or cacti!
