#OutdoorGrowing #HappyPlants #HappyPlants. These hydrangeas are growing in Souteast Texas on the north side of my house. They have had a rough three/four years, and I’m trying to do better. Can you help me determine if this is mold on the leaves? What should I do to help these plants? When do I trim them to ensure next season’s blooms? I think some bloom on old growth and some bloom on new growth. I’m not sure which these are. We had a lot of rain from a tropical disturbance that went through and now very hot and dry.
Bushy with lots of leaves and some flowers, you’re doing good! North facing area is great, I’ve got similar problems here in Tokyo due to the rainy season and hot summers.
Like mine, you’ve got French hydrangeas which bloom in old growth. Right now, looking at the finished blooms is a good window to trim them. Since you’re worried about their growth, just snip off the old, faded flower heads down to the first set of healthy green leaves.

The fungal leaf spot is pretty common, usually not that harmful just a bit in the ugly side. The only way to avoid it is water from the base. You can prune off any really ugly ones if you want, just don’t take a lot off at once.
Thank you so much for this response. It was very helpful. I had the question about old new growth and trimming… again thank you.
