Any tips on keeping white mold/mildew off of unglazed clay pots?
The white stuff that accumulates on terra cotta pots is usually mineral deposit build up from either your water (if it's hard) or fertilizer. So it's not usually mold/mildew. You can clean it with water and white vinegar. I have also started using distilled water because my water is so hard where I live!
@mossthecat I agree with @StarryKentia where a spritz of clear spray paint work but it also reduces the air flow on the pot). Like @JovialCaitlin said if it is white it’s mineral but I get this (see pic 1) in a few which is mildew/mold. you can make a mixture of like 1 tsp bleach and a cup of water and wipe the outside of it with a rag. Or, I have 12% hydrogen peroxide that I mix in a spray bottle 50/50 water to peroxide and spray the outside of it. I use the bleach for my terracotta pots in the kitchen as I don’t want mold to spread (I read it’s not a problem if you don’t have asthma). Second pic is pot 5 min after spraying with peroxide and wiped. The Left of the pot has the mold. The right is sprayed.
The second pic didn’t attach for some reason.
