Mamey plant is looking happy! Just a lil sunburnt, whoops! 😬 Grew it from the seed, and it’s been a cool experience 😊
@HeraMonstera Ah yes, of course!
It’s called a Mamey Sapote and it’s native to Mexico, i believe. I cant remember where I bought the fruit, but it might’ve been some international supermarket. I didn’t like the taste lol (had avocado-like texture, which I hate lol, and was slightly sweet, but also way different than anything I’ve tasted), but I like plants and decided to try and grow it. I grew it from the fruit’s seed, which was surprisingly large. It does well in hot and humid, but obviously can’t stand much of that direct southern sun🫠Unfortunately it attracts bugs that try and destroy it, and gets a bit chewed up by caterpillars. So it’s a bit of a battle at times, but fairly easy to care for. It should produce another fruit in the next 6+years. I forgot how long I’ve had it, but I think it’s been around a year 😊

@tunnybiger that is so cool! Thanks for sharing. I’m so intrigued by the color of that fruit and the size of the seed. And the leaves look so similar to a money tree but with an entirely different phyllotaxy. This is so interesting to look at!
@HeraMonstera Oh, yeah, now that I think about it, it does look like a much larger version of the money tree leaves! How cool😊
@HeraMonstera I looked at the link you sent 😊 I’d say it tasted like pumpkin, almond, and melon, with avocado texture. I definitely did not taste chocolate though😂
@tunnybiger they say it’s commonly made into smoothies. If you like smoothies maybe one day when it fruits you can try that.
