Any help with what I think is a #PeanutCactus ? Repotting to add support - super floppy and grows fast. #greg couldn’t identify him.
6” pot without drainage
Last watered 9 months ago
@Mommaplouff Ahhh yes, confirmed…that’s definitely a Peanut Cactus (Echinopsis chamaecereus) and he’s 100% in his I’m too leggy for this pot era…. I had one just like this…named him Sir Flops-a-Lot because every time I turned around, he was trying to escape the pot like it was a group project…. Here’s what worked perfectly for me Shallow wide pot > deep pot. They grow outward, not downward. Then use super gritty cactus mix (I added extra perlite and pumice to mine).
Gently bury the base just enough to stabilize, then pack in small stones around the stems for support (bonus: looks cute, helps root contact).Let him dry out for a couple days post-repot, then water lightly he’ll perk up fast. This tip I learned from my grandmother…Mine lives in bright indirect light with a splash of morning sun. Too much afternoon blast made him stretchy and floppier than a sunbathing seal. And don’t stress floppiness is totally normal for these guys. He’s not dying, he’s just dramatic.
Once established, he’ll trail beautifully and may even bless you with those firecracker-orange blooms (mine did after repot + a little summer stress glow-up). So yes, Peanut Cactus confirmed. Floppy but fabulous.
You’re doing great, and he’s lucky to have a human who actually asked before making it worse (can’t say the same for past me).
Tag us in his glow-up.

@JungleDreamer I cannot thank you enough for reaching out and sharing your advice. I’ll be looking for a shallow wide pot for his best life. Again thank you so much I’m new here and love the app so far.
@MommaPlant Aww welcome to the jungle (literally)! So glad you’re here and girl, your plant’s about to enter its main character era :) with that shallow wide pot upgrade. You’re clearly raising him right already Tag us when he’s basking in that glow-up life!
@Mommaplouff I believe you have a rat tail cactus. Similar to a peanut cactus, they are both trailing plants so it's doing what it's supposed to do. It looks great. (The one with the flowers is the peanut)👍😃
@JungleDreamer love your commentary and suggestions.
@YevePigfern75 I’ll take it as a compliment:)
@JungleDreamer 🤣 Sir Flops-a-Lot
@Mommaplouff I completely agree with @JungleDreamer it’s definitely a Peanut cactus and great advice thank you, mine is getting slightly out of hand and growing all over the place maybe it needs that shallow pot??!!
@FairyFly whatever he is, he is so forgiving. Not fragile and very floppy. I just hope he likes to hang over the edge.
For sure @Mommaplouff
