It looks like a lilac to me, so pretty! And they do smell amazing !!
I was going to say the same thing @debbiedo !

Congratulations, RoseRed! I think you've been upgraded to a lilac! 😄

Those blooms are amazing! The color! Love a scented garden 🙏🌷
@LaSiguanaba I love your bush, Rose Red, I have never heard of a butterfly 🦋 bush before but the colors are amazing. And you say it smells sweet? Does it attracts bees? I don't know you domestic situation but have you or your husband ever considered a bee hive? 🤔 I went to a workshop (another one) and if my domestic situation was such I could have a bee hive, I would have one. But I digress, I just thought bees 🐝🐝 could find so lovely honey for their honeypot with flowers like that 🌺🌺🌺🌺. The more I see of your garden, the more I like it and it must be nice to be experiencing spring in Eugene. I am glad you are "here for it* as I and others are here to see it too. You must be buzzing 🐝 with excitement so enjoy. 😀👍😍🌸💮🪷🌸💮😻🥰
Wait what? It's been a lilac all this time? I know what they smell like , I grew up with them and the bees love them 😍 🐝🐝😍
@debbiedo Really? Thanks! This will sound silly but I didn’t know lilacs grew on bushes like this. They smell amazing!
@CorvidFan Yes, they smell so good and I love that I can see them from my bedroom.
@Seymour Hey Seymour, my lilac bush is a real show stopper and I just love taking the time to watch it from my bedroom window. It’s very peaceful and relaxing. And yes, the scent is divine! 🌸
@LaSiguanaba Rose Red, I am completely confused about your bush now?!?😵‍💫 is it a lilac, a butterfly, a lilac that is a known as a butterfly 🦋?!?
It doesn't help that we have a bush here whichbis a weed and looks very different.
Whatever your bush is, it is lovely and I hope it grows well for you and attracts the bees 🐝 😊 😀

@Seymour Thanks for this Seymour! Very cool.
@LaSiguanaba cool, if you settle the debate let me know. As I know what Lilac bushes smell like, I grew up with then but butterflies is an entirely new name for a bush like the one in the photo. Keep those photos coming, you are growing a beautiful garden by the looks of it. Don't be troubled I am easily confused these days?!?!
@Seymour You? Confused Seymour? What about?
@LaSiguanaba @Seymour

In my mind, there's no doubt it's a "Common Lilac" and it's beautiful! Smell-o-vision would be fantastic right now. But it's only in my mind I'm inhaling that gorgeous fragrance.

Lilacs bloom in spring; butterfly bushes bloom late summer to fall.

Late in the season, last year, I was shopping around for both. They're both lovely and attract pollinators. But I give the edge to lilacs. Butterfly bushes can be invasive and in fact, I see them nearly taking over deserted lots. (Me thinking: I'll buy a lilac shrub and take a midnight clipping of a BB).

It seems lilacs and BBs are often mistaken for one another.

Here's two articles explaining their differences.

@CorvidFan Elle Elle Elle, thank you so much for clearing up my muddled understanding. I love lilac so I secretly hoped it was one. I was so confused 🤔😕
That was brilliant detective work 💯 and you kindly added some articles. @LaSiguanaba
Rose Red, are you excited your bush has been revealed as a lilac? Regardless, I will miss out on smelling the fragrance although i can still imagine the ones I knew with busy bees 🐝🐝 I can rest easy knowing that now, thanks again Elle
RoseRed, you mentioned you didn't know lilac grew how yours is... understandable! There's over 1000 varieties and seven colors (purple has the strongest scent):

"The lilac, Syringa vulgaris, is a species of flowering plant in the olive family Oleaceae. Syringa is a genus of up to 25-cultivated species with more than one-thousand varieties."
@CorvidFan Thank you SO much for this great information —it is so helpful! I love my lilac bush and am glad to know what it is! 😊
@Seymour Yes! So glad it’s been identified! 🌸
@CorvidFan Brilliant information, Evelyn, very impressive and in my view great news, love lilacs and so do bees 🐝 😀 😊
RoseRed a beautiful plant and a perfect color for spring as well. Definitely a lilac and they do bloom in the spring. The butterfly bush grows in the summertime. Not as great of smell as the lilacs.. ❤️ but do attract butterflies galore.. 🙃
@CourtlyKingfern Yes, it is! I’m so enjoying our first spring in the new house. 😊
