Yall I didn’t know!?
We all know in Walmart they sell
moon cactus grafts. A graft is when they put a plant into another plant.
So they put a variegated moon cactus and hylocereus or dragon fruit tree stems.
Gymnocalycium is my favorite cactus because of the flowers, but I never knew it was called moon cactus.
Look I got the mom grafted cactus!! Also look how much I got! #HappyPlants #CactusClique #cactusaddiction @Cactus_Jasmine @CutePolypremum @DaringColtsfoot @HoyaMamma85 @MariansOasis @princesspitstop @HoyaUniqua

@Saturn572 Whether a Gymnocalycium (specifically Gymnocalycium mihanovichii, or Moon Cactus) can grow on its own depends entirely on its coloring. If it has green, purple, or black pigment, it can photosynthesize and survive on its own roots. Completely albino variants (bright red, yellow, or pink) lack chlorophyll and require a rootstock to survive. Identifying if Your Gymnocalycium Can Survive1. Chlorophyll-Rich Varieties (Can Grow Alone)What they look like: Dark green, brownish-green, deep purple, or heavily variegated (meaning they have noticeable green patches mixed in).How they grow: Because they have chlorophyll, they can produce their own energy through photosynthesis. If you want to transition a grafted one with these colors to its own soil, you can carefully degraft it, let the base callous, and plant it. They are generally slow, steady growers on their own. Albino / Mutant Varieties (Cannot Grow Alone)What they look like: Neon bright pink, yellow, orange, or stark white with zero green or dark pigment.How they grow: These are albino mutants and cannot process sunlight into food. They must remain permanently attached (grafted) to a green host cactus, like a Hylocereus (dragon fruit cactus), which acts as their life support system by feeding them nutrients and water.
@Ms.Persnickety I put some of them into another hylocereus! I have a dragon fruit tree and I had to use it😆
@Saturn572 @Ms.Persnickety very interesting! I learn something new everyday!!🙌
