Hello happy plant people. For several days I thought my Lithop was dying possibly from over watering. It had turned brown and crunchy on the top and looked like it was about to burst. Yesterday, after looking at it closely I realized it was shedding its leaves. Up until now I have never seen a little lithop loose leaves. 🤔. Here is a closeup photo I just took. Yes, it's called splitting! You should completely stop watering when they're in the process of splitting. The plant absorbs all the moisture and nutrients it needs from the old shriveling leaves, so giving the plant more water can cause them to rot. Splitting can be a very long process, sometimes 2-3 months or longer. But I promise your lithops will be just fine without water during this period. Once the old leaves have almost completely dissolved and disappeared, you can resume watering normally 😊
Wow! I never knew lithops can shed, thats really cool!
Wow, that's nice. Thanks Steph!
First photo is what my lithops looked like back in April. Second photo is what they look like now 😛
