๐ can anybody tell me, what she is planning to do with that root? I mean, I know they grow them any way they want, but this has to be the most eccentric one I've seen as of yet. Give it some time, and it surpasses the leaves. To the heavens! #orchidlovers

@MusicalRedmint HAHAHA ๐คฃ She's got BIG aspirations!
@MusicalRedmint The air root seems to be caught/stuck in the clip! By removing it from its unintended location it might start grow closer to the soil. Air roots donโt usually grow up. They grow along the soil until they find something to attach themselves to and possibly grow upwards.
@princesspitstop ๐คฃ yes, it seems that way. Which is somehow even funnier considering she is a mini cat. ๐คฃ And those roots on her can *grow*. Before the last severe mite outbreak did a number on them (they were the broad mites' favorite food, ever), it had the strongest root system I had ever seen, especially on an orchid that size. Let's see how far it will make it's way up there.
@Ms.Persnickety nope. It just seems that way because of the perspective. Otherwise, I would have noticed that - I would think ๐ค No, this root just started growing and chose violence. And though most do, some aerial roots do not stay close to the soil necessarily. I do have some rebellious ones here in particular. But none like this.
@MusicalRedmint Grow baby grow!!
@Araceae seems like it ๐
I've taken a closer look, apparently the root emerged wedged into 2 pseudobulbs so maybe the only choice was up.... but it never adjusted.
....Or maybe it's just very ambiguous and wants to "stand" out
