New to the group and not the greenest thumb of the garder! Gonna try my hardest to keep the kids alive! Any advice is more then welcomed. Headed out soon to get pots and new soil! 🤞
@AlluringPhlox Hi Jennifer! I believe all of those prefer medium filtered sunlight- once you repot them and give them a drink of water, wait until they are almost completely dry before watering again, and make sure they get at least 8-10 hours of medium sunlight. Once it gets cold you will need to wait until they are totally dry before watering, they don’t need as much water in the winter but the rest of the year you want to give them enough water that the soil is completely wet and let the extra water drain out the bottom so remember to only get or use pots that have drainage, that is very important! Almost no plants can sit in undrained water, they will drown and get root rot with will be hard to come back from. The pots you choose need to be 1-2” larger than what they are in now. You don’t want them too large! The plants need to move up in pot size the 1-2” until they outgrow the pot then move up another 1-2”. It’s best to wait until you see roots coming out of the drainage holes in the pots before you move them again. So to recap, repot with drainage in a little larger pots then what they are in now. Water them until the soil is damp but not soaked. Once they are almost dry, water them again. You can use a skewer and stick down in the soil and pull it out. Just like a cake in the oven when checking if it’s done, when you stick a toothpick in the batter and if batter comes out onto the toothpick it’s not done, if soil comes out onto the skewer it’s not time to water but if it comes out slightly dirty but no soil is sticking to the skewer then they are ready for water. I hope that makes sense! Don’t repot until roots are growing out the holes. When spring arrives start watering again until water comes out of the drainage holes and give diluted fertilizer once a month throughout the summer and into the fall. Let me know if I can assist in any way, I know this is a lot but you caught me in the mood to write🤣 You got this! Good luck!🪴🍀
You’ve got some amazing choices! The begonias are the only ones I’d say be a little more careful with; they can be a little moody, in my experience. But otherwise, I’m sure you know, make sure to have a well-draining soil, so I’d recommend an inch or so bigger in pots than they are in now. Then, make sure you have some sand or something. Black lava rocks, orchid mix, coco coir, anything like that blended together generally makes a great medium for all of those. Then just bright indirect light. Lastly, I’d say to make sure to let the top of the soil dry out a little before watering again. If it makes mud, it’s too much water. 😉, and water around the plant or bottom water. ☺️ Good luck, luck 🍀 I’m sure you will love it! You’ve got a great selection!
