Being Epiphytic is for me equal to loving “moist” but not soggy soil. Epiphytes LOVE oxygen in their roots. So use a well-draining mix that is moisture retentive. My mix is 15% compost 15% peat moss (I use peat as our water in Alberta is very Alkaline (7.8) and rich in calcium from the North Saskatchewan river) 15% perlite/pumice 15% lava rocks 20% fir bark (for acidity) 10% charcoal and 10% Vermicast. This mix allows me to flush and leach my soil at every watering (1-2x a week) mainly because the minerals with that kind of ph will build up fast. I also actively acidify my fertilizer mix to 6 to release the calcium from my water and make it readily available to the plants and I fertilize every 2nd watering with 3-1-2 at half strength
