While they aren’t always the prettiest plants (depending on the variety) they are a great starter plant. They thrive on neglect and can do fine in low light (although, they won’t grow as fast with low light). I got one from a friend about eight years ago and it has given me so many pups! It’s so exciting to see a new pup pop up from the soil. They like well draining soil (cactus soil) and seem to prefer terracotta pots. So many varieties to choose from!

Sansevierias are also an easy plant. They do nicely on very bright, indirect sunlight but they do the best on direct sunlight for, like, the whole evening. Water once a month or so, and cacti and succulent plant food twice a year. Transplanting is important, using the correct potting soil and also gravel for the bottom and the top of the pot. Terracotta pots are the best because they can drain the excess water so pot your succulents on these pots if you can.

Snake plants are great for beginners! You can forget about them and they’ll be ok! The thing I don’t love are the little flies. I got my plant from a local plant grower and it came with the gnats. Thankfully they haven’t moved to any of my other plants, but that’s one thing I would change if I could. Otherwise, they’re beautiful and super easy to keep alive.
