Beautiful big leaves and arguably the queen of my indoor jungle but of all the calatheas I’ve looked after, the Orbifolia is definitely the biggest diva. Can get crispy edges super easily so only water with rain water or filtered water and mist, mist, mist!

I have two of these in different locations in my apartment. One is in the bathroom where it gets low-ish to medium light and humidity from the shower, the other is in the living room next to a north facing window where it gets medium light but no humidity. Both are doing well but now that it’s coming into winter where I live I’ve found the living room Orbi is been getting brown edges and growth has stopped. Bathroom Orbi is still pushing out new leaves and has one tiny brown tip on its smallest possibly oldest leaf!
My Orbi’s are so much more resilient than my other Calathea/Goeppertia that came from the same nursery so if day they’re less finicky and maybe one step up from a beginner plant. I only water these when they are almost completely dry.

Mine seems to not like direct light. It’s a slow grower and like others have said, they brown easily.

This is one of my favourite looking plants, however I’ve had a lot of issues with browning (more than any other calathea I have) and I’ve not seen the rate of growth I would like to. Bigger plants are soooo gorgeous though it’s super worth trying, but i don’t recommend getting a small one - get it already mid sized.

Gotta keep the humidity high to make this one happy. Mine doesn’t get any direct sunlight but sits about 3 feet away from a west facing window. Check your leaves frequently, spider mites love these things.

*sigh* Calatheas set me up to fail- I can do no right by them. This guy gets a minimum of 70% humidity and is watered with only rain water and what do I get? 6 remaining leaves, sad and dry.

I should rename him Chris P. Leaves 🙄

This is my formal resignation from Calathea keeping.

I love Mando my Calathea. Adorable new bright green striped leaves, grows quickly when 3ft or so from a south-facing window. BUT it browns soooo easily. I think anybody who grows calatheas should be prepared for brown tips and accept their plant with all of its imperfections (like ourselves 😊)

Not sure what I’m doing wrong, but this is the one plant in my house that I struggle the most. No matter what I do, the leaves just keep on browning. I added pebble tray, water attentively, and use water that I leave sitting overnight. It doesn’t grow much (maybe it’s not the season?) I’m afraid to add fertilizer because it’s so sensitive.
