Monstera is a must for your indoor jungle. The large leaves will grow holes and slits as the plant matures. I’ve had this one for 3 years now, and it’s been an up and down journey. Not sure how it will end yet. It came with 3 stalks, and unfortunately only one remains, mostly due to a lack of proper care early on. I thought I could get away with a no-drainage potting but that proved disastrous, so now Monster sits in a draining pot that drains into a decorative pot. What a difference!
During growing season it will grow fast, and during dormant season it will completely stop, and seems most vulnerable to losing leaves. When the edges crisp it’s the kiss of death. My monstera kept sprouting new leaves only for them to crisp up as babies. Pruning leaves that are not thriving is a great way to direct its energy to growing healthy new leaves.
Be really careful with plant food. One of my early mistakes was that I probably over fed it, when monstera is so sensitive to what’s in its water that it’s recommended you let the water sit in the can so heavy minerals can settle. I only feed it during growth season.
I’m hoping that this one stalk will sprout enough leaves that I can split and propagate it to fill it back out.
