I’ve only managed to keep one of these alive and I attribute it to the soil it’s in (I inherited it from a friend) I’ve had 2 others that I could not keep alive that basically got too dry and then too wet. Just could not get the watering right. But I’ve got one that fairly large that’s happy and healthy in my care, just can’t tell you how.

I love the bird’s nest because it can tolerate a little less humid climate than some other ferns. Mine has been an easy going plant, with little fuss or maintenance đŸ’•đŸŒ±

This is my favorite plant so far! I love that you can tell how much water the plant has consumed / needs, because the leaves are so sensitive & start to feel limp/thin when they’re thirsty.

I learned this after letting them get too limp: I twice ignored the app reminders when I was away on diff weekend trips, and each time I let an additional 2-3 days go by before watering. It started to show, and then I finally started feeling the leaves and realized how much damage my neglect had done! So now I regularly feel the leaves to make sure they’re happy, and lo and behold, now that I’m using the app, they are 🙃 and new tendrils are budding all the time! They are so cute and zany.

Yeah love this plant, definitely recommend. With the leaves being such easy/immediate “tells” for plant happiness, I feel like we really “get” each other now 😅

When I started this plant journey, I saw many sources on the Internet saying it needs low light, so I put it on my bathroom sink. Don’t let “low light” fool you đŸ˜© it wasn’t growing well and the edges of the leaves started browning. Then I read Darryl Cheng’s House Plant Journal book and understood that “low light” means the plant can still look pretty while hanging on dear life!!! I didn’t want to treat my plant like that, so I moved it next to the window. It’s just been a week, but a new leaf has already unfurled. đŸ„° Treat your bird nest fern kindly and give it good sunlight!
