Philodendron 'Paraiso Verde' problem (hopefully) solved! So, this has been an adventure, and I'm not sure it's going to work, but I hope so. Either way, I needed to do something ASAP. As I posted before, my Paraiso Verde just wouldn't stop growing, reaching the top of the moss pole. I don't currently have space for another pot in my room, so after careful (I hope!) I decided... to propagate it into the same pot! After research and being certain these can be propagated safely into substrate, I cut a good portion of the plant - like a REALLY good portion, and then a bit more to save more space - dipped it into rooting hormone, and planted it into the same pot! Now I'm keeping it moist and monitoring it. Please send good energies, cause it just gave me the most beautiful, variegated leaf. If it doesn't work, I'm sure it will keep growing from the part I cut, so I'm not totally worried. But I thought it was a good solution - Make good use of the big moss pole and pot, and of the space I have. So... this is my 'Paraiso Verde' that I've posted here before. I'm extremely proud of it, despite it having developed mostly in winter and autumn, meaning its bigger leaves have a very low level of variegation. aaaand it grows FAST. It is days from reaching the top of a 40cm moss pole while unfurling another leaf, so I was ready to cut the top part, make a cutting and give it to a friend. Would you believe it gave me the most beautiful, variegated leaf? 😂😂😂 Now I'm at a loss as for what I'm gonna do. It's already planted and in a pole. I can make another cutting, but I'm not sure there's space in the same pot. I could make another plant in another pot, but then there's the problem of space here at home. My Paraiso Verde won’t stop growing! It’s been with me for less than a month and it’s just the fastest grower I’ve seen. New leaves, new growth, faster and faster. A joy to see. I’ve been fertilizing accordingly and with a new foliar fertilizer that is very, very good. It’s going to outgrow a 40cm pole soon. I’m going to propagate! ✨️ Variegation is back! I got this Philodendron Paraiso Verde in late April as a rescue - it's gangly as heck and had reverted to solid green leaves. I knew I'd have to chop it down to help manage its height but was really scared to because I hadn't done it before and didn't want to kill the plant. Then two months ago, a breezy window broke it in half so I had no choice but to go for it. I managed to successfully propagate three of the four leaves (fourth is hanging in there for now). Photo below of the leaf props with Philodendron Bette Waterbury photobombing in the back 😆 (I should do an appreciation post on this one, she's been fantastic!) It's not her regular spot, I'm doing some plant tetris in preparation for the fall weather but anyhow... This newest leaf is the first it's grown on the main plant since the breeze broke it. It must have opened sometime yesterday but I only saw it this morning. So thrilled the variegation has returned! Can't wait for it to harden off so I can see its final colouring. Meet my new #Philodendron 'Paraiso Verde' So, I knew it was a more mature plant, but I'm gonna have an issue because the pole really is gonna make it difficult for it to not tip over. Guess I'm gonna have to invest in a reeeeally heavy cache pot. Because it is still Winter here, these leaves are not as variegated as they could - and hopefully will - be, but still, they look great!
