Am I doing this correctly?

I directly planted him into the soil. Like bottom down like I was planting a seed. As seen on his stats page. He was in there quite a while so I gently dug around him to see if he was finally getting roots and yes he's got a pretty good root system going and has grown taller since I planted him. So I put the roots back into the soil and laid him down flat. Is that the correct way to propagate him?

@princesspitstop I gotcha, ha. Don’t give up on’ them until they’re literally dust because they can really do some surprising things and decide to recover or decide to magically start growing when they finally choose to (given proper conditions of course).

If you haven’t looked into watching a video or something about propagating them, I usually like recommending this one since it’s clear and informative with good visual examples: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6gJFYC094pY
Hi @princesspitstop lay flat in a sunny window and ignore, misting occasionally and it should root.
Yep same advice as @Momof83ans they want Light to start rooting. The water/misting helps the roots find water and grow.
You did let the cut part dry out first?
@Momof83ans @TheLonelyDaff It has roots. I've had him for a while and wondered why it never started growing a baby succulent where they're supposed to. After I saw some pics of singular leaves with whole babies growing on them did I realize that it probably needed to lay flat. I put it's roots in the soil and laid it down. Is that all I do now? Just stick him in a sunny window and keep the soil moist?
@Momof83ans Yes exactly like yours! My goofy self stuck him in the soil like I was planting him! He grew roots while he was down in there but never grew a baby. I'm guessing because he was too deep? πŸ˜‚
@princesspitstop If i remember correctly, Echeverias like sedum leaf cuttings will use up the old leaf and grow a new plant from where the cut is.

Yes leave by sun, you can let the soil dry out between keeping it wet the leaf should be fine but you dont want it soaking.

Also sometimes its just not quite right for the cutting and it fails. I have had cuttings not take especially in the winter for me.
@TheLonelyDaff Well let's say a little prayer and keep our fingers crossed. I've managed to keep him alive since July! Just planted wrong lol
@princesspitstop i occasionally mist my soil, i think it’s only been damp once. I ignore it, that has been the key for me. I’ve un-alived everything else succulent related.
@princesspitstop yeah, I just throw the leaf in the soil and it normally works out. πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ
Would like to mention that propagation isn’t a 100% thing. The leaves will grow pups with no roots or roots with no pups or just nothing at all and immediately die lol! Not all succs do well with leaf propagations too so…

It’s kinda… up to the leaf sometimes… they’re silly and like to do weird things. If it hasn’t immediately shriveled up after this long, there may still be luck for a pup and you just need to wait for the right season. I’ve had a leaf prop since April… YES, APRIL!!! that *JUST NOW* started to grow a pup and a few tiny roots πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
@itsjordan Succulents in my hands usually don't last long that's why I'm surprised he's still kicking. Well hopefully I can keep him alive through the winter! 😁
@itsjordan Awesome πŸ‘ Thanks so much!
