Help ID Succulents Please!
Hi guys! I got these little ones from my local store today because they were looking pretty sad, and were kept right by a door that was constantly opening/closing. But, I have no idea what they are or how to take care of them. Would you be able to help me identify all of them, and let me know how to take care of each one? One pot has three plants potted together. Should I separate them, and repot them in individual pots? I added pics of the three that are potted together in the comments @SuperbRaspfern @FairyFly @TheOddAsity @TheConservator @Camron @stephonicle @itsjordan @Charli3Plant @MW_Kaktushaus @Seymour @Blueberrypie @itsjordan @prentyce @vvvelo @TidyTigerpear @Jana85
I finally got some succulents!π΅π± @Artistic_Stoner

@Dagobahsystem Thank you! Do you know any of the ones that are potted together? I think one of the is a snake plant, but Iβm new to all of them. So, I might be wrong π
It looks like youβve got two snake plants, the long thin one is a Fernwood Mikado Snake Plant and the one that has almost stacked leaves is a birds nest snake plant! Theyβre really good for improving air quality in your homeπππ» the first photo you have in the comments section looks like a Pachyphytum Cheyenne succulent
@OrangeGrass I agree with @Dagobahsystem and that first pic in the comments does look like a pachy-something, it also reminds me of some type of ghost plant. And the separation is really a personal preference, in the near future they will run out of room though. Something to keep in mind. ππ
Ohh congratulation! They are pretty! πI'm not great at succulents, I have about 10 that have survived my care for about 10 years now. I just added some new ones recently to my collection. So, hopefully I can learn and keep mine all alive this go round! So, sorry I can't help you out at all it would be a case of "The Blind Helping the Blind". @JenniferNoel has helped me. I'll tag her for you if I think of any succulent masters I'll edit and add them too! β€οΈ
@OrangeGrass the second is kalanchoe tomentosa or chocolate soldiers or pansa plant
@Dagobahsystem Tysm π Would you happen to know the care for all of these?
@FairyFly Ty! π The soil itβs in looks weird. They are all in what seems like quite dense soil. I think Iβll separate them because as you said, they will run out space relatively quickly. The flower looking one also seems to be at an awkward angle in the potβcrowded π
What type of soil do you use for your succulents? And, any ratios to keep in mind?
@SuperbRaspfern Aww, thank youuuu! π No worries! We shall find our succuelnt/cacti guru π You are my tropical guru π
@TheLonelyDaff Do they all look the same? Is the care for all of them the same also? Iβm not really pressed about finding out exactly what they are as opposed to figuring out how to care for them. Iβm new to taking care of plants, and these are my first succuent babies π₯°
@OrangeGrass I usually change the pot and soil right when I get them, don't want to stress them out twice if I don't need to. I've found most stores get their succulents and cacti from Costa farms, and the put a lot of what I believe is some sort of coco coir? I use miracle grow succulent soil and perlite for added aeration. About 3 parts soil and 1 part perlite, it's not precise, I kinda eyeball it. They all pretty much require the same care. Full sun, south facing window if you can or the sunniest. Indoors/winter only water about once a month or the soil is COMPLETELY dry. I'm not sure about the snake plants though, I don't have experience with those.
@OrangeGrass π
@FairyFly Three of the ones I got are from Costa Farms. Iβm not sure about the other two. I will go ahead and repot them tomorrowβyou are right, donβt need to stress them twice by waiting. Also, I really donβt like how the soil looks. It looks nasty π€’ Thanks for sharing your recipe π I eyeball too π I did place them all by a south facing window. I also setup a grow light over them because the days are so short still here. How do you check if the soil is completely dry o in your succulents?
@PatriciasOasis Thank you π I thought so too! I just wanted to bring them home instead of leaving them to die a slow death at my local grocery store by their entrance door π₯²
@Catplantaddict Nice! I love the fuzzy leaves! How do you care for it?
@OrangeGrass - Hello Dee π₯°
This is a pachypytum hookeri!
Care for all of them is about the exact same! Just make sure the soil is COMPLETELY DRY before watering! You can test it with a water meter or look at the soil in the drainage holes!
FULL SUN and a little bit of water will make these guys the happiest π₯°
Terracotta pots are best for succulents and will help absorb some of the water out of your soil! If you have some great, if not thatβs ok too!
I would definitely recommend repotting ASAP as Costa Farms uses coco coir and it will kill your succulents faster than anything!! It holds onto moisture for quite awhile and they donβt like that!!

@OrangeGrass I kinda forgot how π (Greg does it for me most of the time), so here's an ai overview
Here are some tips for caring for a panda plant, also known as Kalanchoe tomentosa:
Watering: Water the plant when the top of the soil is dry, and reduce watering in the winter. Too much water can cause root rot.
Light: Place the plant in a spot with bright, indirect sunlight for about 6 hours a day. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves.
Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix for cacti and succulents, or a mixture of sand and cactus soil.
Temperature: Keep the plant at room temperature, between 60β75Β°F (15β23Β°C).
Fertilizer: Feed the plant every four weeks with a diluted fertilizer during the spring and summer.
Humidity: Normal room humidity is fine, and the plant can tolerate dry air.
Pests: Watch for pests like mealybugs, and treat them with neem oil if necessary.
Repotting: Repot the plant every two years, or less frequently once it matures.
Propagation: Take stem cuttings in the spring, or leaf cuttings and place them on top of soil.
Airflow: Keep the plant in a spot with plenty of airflow to prevent powdery mildew.

@OrangeGrass moisture meters work better with more dense, compact soil. You're not going to get consistent, accurate reading in cactus soil. I take a wooden skewers or you could use a wooden chopstick and stick it in the soil all the way to the bottom. If it comes out with dirt, wait a week and check again. If it comes out clean, the soil is dry. I call it the brownie method. π
@OrangeGrass && CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW PLANTY FINDS! That was an awesome haul

@SuperbRaspfern - Thank you for the tag BESTFRIEND ππ
@JenniferNoel Your welcome my friend β€οΈ
@JenniferNoel Hi Jennifer! Thank you so much for the info π I plan on getting some terracotta pots tomorrow. Iβm not sure how big the pots are supposed to be. I couldnβt find any 3 inch pots. Are the pots measured by the height or the diameter? I will repot them once I have their new apartments π I only have miracle gro succulent soil. Is that okay? Do I need to keep them in direct sunlight or do they need indirect sunlight? Thanks again π
@FairyFly Lol, I love the βbrownie methodβ ππ I have wooden skewers. Ty Kourtney π
@OrangeGrass - Hereβs a bowl I put together with some of my sickly little succulents!!
They were in the wrong soil when I got them and it caused the cells to burst on some, some had root rot, and they were extremely root bound!
The pots are measured by the diameter! Height doesnβt really matter! Just whatever you want!
Miracle grow succulent soil is good! I would just add in some perlite or sand for more aeration! The more the better!
Succulent need either bright direct sun or you can supplement with grow lights!!
And youβre welcome, my friend! Anytime β€οΈ

Fo sho @OrangeGrass
I love arrangements. So beautiful @JenniferNoel.
@JenniferNoel OMG! Your tiny succs are so cute! π I love succuelnt arrangements! I was looking at some today, but they didnβt look healthy :/ I put them next to a south-facing window with a grow light for when the sun goes downβwe still have short days here in MD. I hope Iβm able to care for them properly. Iβve kept myself from getting any succulents because I was sooooo afraid of killing them π
but they are so plump and cute! π₯°
@OrangeGrass - Awhh thank you π₯°
Iβm actually from Virginia, but I grew up in Virginia and Maryland! My mom is in Hagerstown, close to PA and WV!
Iβm in Georgia now so I also use grow lights to supplement! Thatβs why my succs are all green! They need to be sun stressed!!
You got this! I have faith in you and you WILL NOT KILL YOUR SUCCULENTS! They are too pretty to kill! Haha π As long as you watch how much you water, you wonβt kill them!! Just keep in the back of your mind, LESS IS BETTER β€οΈβ€οΈ

@FairyFly - Thank You Sweet Girl π
@OrangeGrass - I also have a little panda plant and the one in the pumpkin pot is a Snow White panda plant! The fuzzy plants are my FAVORITES π€©π€©
And a Haworthia pot I put together for my husband π₯°

More Kalanchoes are on my wishlist. Gorgeous @JenniferNoel. I need a sign or a shirt like that second pic!
@OrangeGrass looka like you already have that care sorted out. But yes I would treat it the same as the echiveras and other succulents.
Oh @OrangeGrass, another way you can tell it's thirsty is the leaves will start to wrinkle slightly.
@FairyFly - π₯° I have accumulated a bunch of kalanchoes in a short amount of time because I just LOVE the fuzziness and how easy they propagate!!
I didnβt even try to prop with my lavender scallops and now it has babies on it like the mother of thousands or millions! They are just popping up everywhere!!
HaHa π
When the weather warms up a little, I can send you some if youβd like π€·π½ββοΈ

Heck to the yeah @JenniferNoel! π―
You got that green thumb @JenniferNoel! ππΏπ₯
@JenniferNoel Small world, huh?! I sometimes go to Hagerstown for shopping ποΈ itβs cheaper than where I live π Iβve never been to Georgia. The furthest Iβve travelled down south is till NC. But, you donβt live that far from me! Do you visit your mom? I feel grow lights are a must for us especially for these little dudes that need soo much light to thrive. I noticed some sun stressing on my Crown of Thorns from just the grow lights. Iβm not sure if thatβs a good thing. I havenβt been able to find much on how to take care of it either. Btw, what kind of grow lights do you use?
Aww, ty! β₯οΈ I appreciate the support π₯° I agree, they are indeed too pretty to kill. Iβm definitely gonna need to repot or I will kill them. Their soil looks grossly dense. I will always make sure to check if they are completely dry before watering! Thank youuuuu!
OMG! Iβm obsessed with fuzzy plants! πͺ΄π They are sooooo freaking cute! They are one of my favorites too π Wow, the Haworthia arrangement you put together for your hubby is gorgeous π Love the look of the potβwhat is that made of?
Your oasis is full to beauties πβ₯οΈ

@FairyFly Iβm not familiar with the wrinkling. Do you have an example of what that might look like? Iβm more of a visual learner π
@TidyTigerpear Thank you Kaitlyn π
@OrangeGrass I found a good example of a thirsty echeveria agavoides. The leaves will be all wrinkly and a few days to a week after watering they should plump back up.
@Artistic_Stoner Aww, hope you are feeling better π Your husband caught it after you did? Iβm recovering from a viral cold too π€§ I caught it from a family member too π Went to the doctor yesterday, and decided to look around in my local shop while grabbing groceries, and I couldnβt leave these guys sitting by the door getting blasted by cold air π₯Ά So, I brought what seemed to be in pretty decent shape oneβs home π
I will definitely share post-repot pics! I need to get me some terracotta pots with drainage holes. The ones I bought yesterday do not have drainage holesβ¦ I didnβt even think to check at the store π€¦ββοΈ Get lots of rest and stay hydrated both of you π
@OrangeGrass yes I feel way better then I did thank you ! I went fishing Sunday & when I got home felt so crappy, thought it was from an exhausting week till I woke up the next day worse. Husband got sick the day after. Hope youβre feeling better too, especially after a handful of new freaking plants π theyβll definitely be happier in a loving, warm home! Ah yes, Iβve made that dang mistake too many times so I caved & bought pots in bulk on Amazon lol(getting ready for springtime repotting, my favorite π€). you can drill a hole in the bottom if you have a drill & still wanted to use them! Canβt wait to see them in their new cozy pots, sending green love to them & you π you rest up too & enjoy your new additions, welcome to the #SucculentSquad π€
@Artistic_Stoner Thanks! I have a question for you. When you repot your new succulents/cacti that youβve just bought, do you completely remove the soil they come in? If so, how do you do that without breaking so many roots? How long do you wait to water after repotting or do you water right away? Is it okay to wash the roots is they look questionable? Do you spray hydrogen peroxide on any that donβt smell or anything but the lower leaves have turned completely black and mushy? There is one that I have which has a couple of mushy black leaves at the bottom
@vvvelo Thanks! I think the 3rd one looks more like a little jewel
@OrangeGrass Iβm sorry for the late reply, urgent family matter π I do remove all soil I can from a new succulent so I can inspect the roots, usually they are fine/super dry but I like to make sure. If the soil is really dry usually the soil comes off easy but if itβs a little wet Iβd wait cause seems the roots are a bit more tender, but if SUPER dry that you canβt get access soil off you can soak the roots to break it up. After I repot Iβll wait a day or two to water making sure any root damage wonβt be as susceptible to root rot. I have not used HP on any black leaves because that usually means overwatering/some kind of infection.. if you see black mushy leaves Iβd take it out to inspect the stem/root! Let me know if you need any help or have any questions π€
@OrangeGrass also, you asked if you can wash the roots if they look questionable, what do you mean by questionable so I can understand a bit better βΊοΈ
@OrangeGrass If you need help getting an ID for your succulents you might want to ask the local succulent expert @vvvelo , can you please help with the identification?
