What could be going on with my succulent? #HappyPlants

The first picture is a before picture before from 2 weeks ago. I cut off the leaf that seemed to be affected the most. The second picture is an update of the plant after using rubbing alcohol to clean it. What do I do? #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #SucculentSquad #SucculentLove #PlantTherapy #PetsAndPlants

Well, it looks like it's from over watering. I would definitely check the roots. Slow down watering, I do mine every 10 days or so. Also, it looks like it needs more light. Mine looked just like that a few weeks ago. Until I realized I wasn't giving it any light. Also, the more light, the more water. So if you're watering too much and it gets no light, it is easier to get root rot or these marks. That's what I noticed. I have a ton of new growth since I put mine under a grow light. They will look pale in a way when they lack light.
@plantfinatic Nemo is thriving though! I’ve had her for a month. Her little leaves on top were extremely small. I received her buried in dirt and have tried my best to give her more life. The leaf I cut off was like that when I received it. The black spots indicate root rot? She is on a windowsill. I repotted her with new soil a little over a month ago. I water Nemo when the soil is completely dry and every 10 days as well! I will check the roots, but I just fear disturbing the plant!
This is her picture from February 7th 2024 when I repotted her. The baby leaves were barely there!
No, the spots don't mean there is root rot, but sometimes it can. I didn't know you had seen them recently. If they are good, then that's great because that would suck, but it's not hard to fix that issue either I have on multiple occasions. But as many times as I had to repot my plants from them flying bugs believe me that plant is good. They are kinda tough, I think. I hope you didn't take what I said as being rude I was just giving you tips on what I did with mine cuz mine was looking sad.i didn't mean any disrespect. It could have been overwatered before u got it. So maybe that's why them spots were there!?
@plantfinatic I didn’t take it as rude at all!!! I love the input! Sorry tone is weird over online communication. I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing for the plant! I should have thanked you for your input. I am genuinely curious and new to this type of plant and unfamiliar with the spots! I wanted to give all the information I could in case!!
Why did you use alcohol to clean the leaves? A little spritz of castille soap and water then a rinse would suffice. These plants get spots every so often from bug bites or they simply get them because they are fast growers and colonize aggressively. It’s in their nature. They need lots of light (violet) to retain their darker color. If there’s no yellow ring around the hole, it’s just bruising or a bug bight or cosmetic damage. Nothing else to worry about. .
@AnthuriumQueen I watched a YouTube video about succulent care and a suggestion to clean fungus was rubbing alcohol. It helped shrink the black dots. Thank you for your advice! I didn’t realize they could get spots or bug bites! I am new to this type of plant
@Flowergirl2222 If you thought it was a fungus, that’s fine. Just know that succulents have thin outer layers and the alcohol can damage them, causing subsequent death. The plant can get bug bites and develop holes. I have a large amount of these (one of my favorites) and it’s only every so often. You’re doing fine caring for it so far. This plant will get a bit messy on its own in appearance but it’ll be doing what it always does. Lavender Scallops are beautiful and I love the variegated Aurora Borealis as well as the Stained Glass and Fire Versions. I think you’ll find it easy to care for since it tends to thrive on neglect when in the right conditions. I can’t wait to see your updates on its growth!
The alcohol can dry it out, and take the protective coating off which can make it more sensitive to direct sun. I use alcohol to clean my plants when having some infection, they will sometimes get soft but they usually recover. It looks fine to me, if it’s soft or wrinkly like less firm then normal, it could be underwatering. Also this is a tugela cliff kalanchoe, not lavender scallops. Knowing the correct ID will help you care for your plant better.
@TidyTigerpear thank you so much for letting me know the species. I was having a rough time finding it on Greg and google! I have done my best to identify the variety pack of succulents I received. I am a pretty new plant mom and have been doing lots of research but have received/ seen a lot of different ideas and feedback! Thank you for your information and help
@AnthuriumQueen thank you for all your help! I appreciate the feedback :))
