I received my bonsai as a Christmas gift and noticed a section of the base seems to be rotted. The rest seems ok for now, but is there anything I can do to help any damage that may have been done?

can you post a picture of the part that appears rotted?
@RJG I pulled away the rotted part. I guess I’ll just fill in with dirt.
The plant, so far, is putting on new leaves and seems to be growing well.
for a desert rose, i would pull all that moss out. they like to dry out completely between waterings
Will do - thank you!! That’s how it was when I received it; wondered about it, but thought the nursery would know what they were doing. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
@GoodIvy people valuing aesthetics over plant health is annoying. Especially sellers!
