@JohnG - Hello John 😊

I have a few questions, but so I can assist you a little better!
What are the lighting conditions?? Is the soil wet or dry? Do you know if it’s in a succulent mix or the original?? How often do you water it??

And welcome to our #GregGang ❀️ We are so happy to have you here! It’s #thebestappontheinternet πŸ₯°
@JenniferNoel I WAS GONNA TAG YOU BEST FRIEND BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH you’re amazing!🀩🌱πŸ₯³πŸ₯Ή You are in wonderful hands @JohnG
@JenniferNoel thanks for helping. Lighting is next to an east window. Only have east available. No south windows and west windows are in the ball/game zone of my son so dangerous for defenseless plants! Soil is dry. It’s still original mix from the nursery. I had asked the nursery where it came from about the issue and they said to almost not water it in the winter but I can see both good (green) leaves and browned ones dropping. I watered it just before Christmas, then got worried I watered too much with the dropping. Then watered lightly earlier this week. I have another mixed succulent that’s thriving in even less light and smaller pot so very confused.
@JohnG - It definitely sounds like a soil issue!!
By chance you can get a grow light πŸ’‘

I have 2 smaller ones! A medio picta/ rainbow bush and then my elephant bush which is pushing out of a 4in pot!
Both of mine are in back to the roots succulent soil! I personally think that’s the BEST for succulents! It drains very well, it dries very quickly, and it’s not expensive!
I ONLY water when the leaves start to wrinkle which is about once every 3 weeks! Especially now since it’s winter time and they aren’t getting sun!

So if I were you, I’d repot it and check on the roots!! I know it’s a lot of work, but it can definitely save your plants!
My rainbow bush was in a 2in pot and dying just a few months ago! Once I repotted , stripped off the old soil, gave it some fresh, and a drop of water, IT RECOVERED! Now it’s growing like a weed!!

And all under a GROW LIGHT!!
@JenniferNoel here is what the current soil looks like. Just watered it according to recommendation.
Then here is a closeup of the leaves
@JohnG - It seems to me that you may have some root rot going on and that’s why the leaves are dying off so fast, but you have some new growth! That means not all of the roots are bad!!
After seeing the soil, I would definitely try to replace and repot! That soil looks like it holds onto moisture and that is an elephant bush worst nightmare! They like light, quick draining, airy soil! Otherwise the oxygen cannot get to the roots and they die off!

If that makes sense!! It’s a lot of work and hassle, but the outcomes are AHHHHMAZING πŸ₯°

I had to redo this whole bowl because of freaking root rot 😫 It took HOURS……..πŸ˜–
But in a month or so, it’ll look HAPPY again 🀩
@JenniferNoel it’s currently in a 9-10” plastic pot. Should I get a slightly larger pot when I repot it also?
@JohnG - TERRACOTTA is BEST for the elephant bush! It will help absorb the extra water so it doesn’t get root rot!
But it will depend on the roots and their condition!
Is it root bound?!
If so, then YES!
If not and it has some rotten roots, then you may need a smaller pot! But terracotta is my go to for succulents regardless of the condition!
@JenniferNoel did my first ever repot! Roots didn’t seem diseased or rotten but very compact and root bound. Interior soil was moist . Removed a bit carefully and now it’s in terracotta pot. Should I water it again or just wait a bit?
@JohnG - HELL YEAH! That is freaking awesome and I’m super proud of you!!
The roots look great 😊
I would not water it! Give it some time to acclimate first! Then just water it next time Greg makes the suggestion!

If the interior soil was moist, that’s probably what was causing the issues!! The soil wasn’t drying out the way it should for succulents! That kind of soil has peat moss or coco coir which is good for plants that need the soil to retain moisture/water!!

Now your elephant bush should be on the road to recovery β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή
@JenniferNoel it has continued to lose its leaves over the last few weeks. Been watering according to Greg schedule. Any other ideas?
