Repotting time?
Hi plant parents! I repotted my snake plant into this current pot in May (8 months ago.) Itβs now looking a little crooked (& lots of new growth.) I donβt really want to increase the pot size. Is it possibleβs to break the plant up and start a new one? Also, what is this in the middle? Itβs never done this before. Thanks!! #Dracaena #SnakePlant

@GrowingGrace Congratulations!! It's going to flower!!! Yes most definitely you can repot and split the plant into 2 or more if you wanted. Personally I would wait until the process of blooming is over. It's not a common thing so enjoy and take pics once it's flowered to document it! I would turn it around so the leaning side is facing the window so it can possibly straighten itself out like @MainerMama17 said. Wherever you had it keep it in that same spot. It is obviously very happy. After all is said and done you can remove it from its pot, take a look at its roots and see where it naturally can be split. If there is a big rhizome in there (kinda looks like a carrot) you can cut that in half to separate the two halves of the plant. You might not have to but I did with mine because there was a big space on the rhizome where there weren't any leaves so I ended up cutting it in half with sterilized scissors to separate the two. They say to leave both of the cut ends out overnight to heal over and then replant them but I didn't I just put them right back into some succulent soil and they're fine. Again Congrats ππ that's so cool!
Wooowπ€© I have heard that they might bloom if it just gets tight enough in the potπ€© I have been waiting to split up mine in hopes I too will get flowers π But so far nothing, and it is crampedπ Oh well.
They do tend to like it tight in their potπ, but I have also heard that after flowering is a good time to repot (as it might be an indicator it is getting a little too tight). But if you don't want to upgrade the pot there is no problem to just cut off some of those pups at the base of the roots and put them in their own pots to keep, sell or give awayπ Every time I have split mine it always responds with making new pups almost immediately ππͺ΄π Here is mineπͺ΄

@GrowingGrace That is truly amazing you have got a blooming snake plant. Congratulations that is indeed a rare occasion. Snake plants prefer to be a bit root bound and can bloom from either mild/continuous stress or when in ideal growing conditions. Flowering does not hurt the plant, does not indicate that it is dying, and can happen annually under the right conditions. Mine have never done that! Although sansevierias like to be pot bound it is okay to split the plant up. But you might want to wait until Spring or until itβs finished blooming, so the plant wonβt be exposed to too much stress.
