Why do you think it is dying?
Can you post a picture
it’s become squishy and slumped and is turning brown
Ooo this looks quite rough. I would probably cut off this part, let the bottom callous over, then put it in water to grow new roots. It may not work but that's would be the best chance to save it I think.
oops forgot the picture
@miaclaire20 @RJG he’s a expert on cactuses 🌡. He is right tho. Cut the good part off and let it callous over, then put it in water to grow new roots. I hope you can save it. Good luck πŸ€
@KikisOasis thanks for the advice! what exactly do u mean when u say let it callous over
If I'm not mistaken, what they mean is to cut off the healthy part, wrap it in a lightly damp paper towel and let it sit out on the counter a few days until the open part on the bottom sort of "scabs" over, dries out and looks "woody". Then repot and cross your fingers!
@miaclaire20 let it set out for about 2 or 3 days an it should have had time to callous over. I know on aloes and snakes plants it will look like it has turned brown when it callouses over.
