Spots

#Philodendron Anyone know whatโ€™s going on with the new leaf on my strawberry shake? These spots appeared within the last week. Iโ€™ve had it for about 3 weeks and about to repot into a chunky mix (it came in moss and perlite). Zone 10 indoors, 50-60% humidity, next to a window with great indirect light and also gets light from her neighbor plantโ€™s grow light.
2ft to light, indirect
3โ€ pot with drainage
Last watered 5 months ago
Could be a fungal infection or just too much water retentionโ€ฆ Iโ€™d def move it to chunky soil. I had something similar on mine and I found an easy spray to make at home that seemed to help (I think it was a mix of water, baking soda, and dish soap)
@JackHenrysMom Thank you for the info!! Iโ€™ll look into a homemade spray for it. Did your plant end up okay afterwards?
@NewVenusslipper I think so. The spotting seemed to slow down. It didnโ€™t get rid of it but it didnโ€™t spread and the plant has been fine since. I just sprayed it on for a few days
It looks like edema. Basically too much moisture can make the cell walls burst. Several factors affect water uptake by a plant and for example if the temperature changes too much after water has been absorbed and it canโ€™t evaporate through the stoma timely, it cause a burst I would wait to repot and let it settle down first. Sometimes this can happen when they are shipped โ€ฆbut a proper watering technique consistently and timely made is how you remedy this moving forward. You could apply a foliar anti-fungal for peace of mind. @NewVenusslipper
@TexanExpat Well thank you John that was very informative. I unfortunately did already repot but I will keep an eye on water and sheโ€™s now under a grow light. Hopefully that will help
Youโ€™re welcome. Make sure the grow light is positioned within 1โ€™ of the top of the canopy otherwise itโ€™s unlikely it is receiving any photosynthetic light. @NewVenusslipper
@TexanExpat Thanks John ๐Ÿ˜Š
