Soggy stem

Why is this guy getting soggy and floppy?
Need different soil?
Need different lighting? My window faces south, no grow lights. Regular potting soil. He looks awful!

Hello @FacileChickory. If it's soggy and floppy, it's rotting. Your lighting is probably fine but I assume it is indeed your soil and possibly watering habits (I don't want to assume how much/often you're watering). Succulents need a chunky/gritty succulent mix with added amendment like perlite or the like for extra drainage and aeration. They don't need water often, maybe every 2 weeks to a couple months depending on the type and season and check the soil before watering, they definitely like dry periods in between. In this particular case, you have to cut off the rot and let the cut callous for a week or so, then pot it up and leave it alone another month to possibly grow new roots. DISCLAIMER: I've had success propagating all types of succulents, but, the one and only time I tried to grow roots on a moon cactus, I sadly failed and it died. So, take my advice at your own risk.
