For me, I leaf them alone. ๏ฟผ Burdaparadise leaves will shred to preserve the stability of the plant. They are usually found in the southern areas that get lots of high wind during the rainy season. When the leaves split, they can look like palm trees, but the leaves that split don't allow the plant to be uprooted.
If you find them horribly disconcerting, you can always cut them at the base and get rid of them all together. (:
