Any tips?

@vvvelo
LOOK I FINALLY GOT THEM
Because you have experience with these beautiful butt cheek succulents, do you have any tips? #succulentsquad #lithopsarmy #greggang
By the way the plant profile isn't finished.
Last watered 1 month ago
I admire lithops! I want one sm but I don't have space for more plants
😭😂ðŸĪĢ😂ðŸĪĢ😂ðŸĪĢ😭ðŸĪĢ what kind of succulents are they?!?!!!!!!
I don’t know why but the sight of Lithops repulse me. I have no earthly idea why they make me cringe so!
@ReliableMango LOL 😂
@PlantsForFun while you wait for Volodymyr to respond...Lithops care is similar to care for most other succulents. Gritty well-draining soil, terracotta pot, direct sun. I actually water mine even less frequently than I do my other succulents—they're so susceptible to rot and can turn to mush in the blink of an eye. I typically only water when they start looking a bit wrinkly, and even LESS frequently during the winter months. You're also supposed to stop watering them altogether when they start "splitting" in the center (center = butt crack) 😛
@PlantsForFun welcome to the #lithopsarmy. I would get them in really gritty soil like 75% to 90% gravel/sand to organics. Give then a couple of light waterings to establish their roots in the new soil and leave them for the winter.

As with @stephonicle they do need alot less water than other succulents so I wouldn't put them in a pot with them, and they prefer being dryer as well.
@ReliableMango they are a type of mimicry succulent / Mesemb, which has a wide variety of plants that look like stones or rocks, typically native to Southern Africa.

But yes lithopses look wierd 😂 but i guess i rather like that or i am wierd too 😂
@TheLonelyDaff thank you for that tidbit hun! I was referencing @PlantsForFun’s description 😂
@TheLonelyDaff wow! You have TONS of lithops on your oasis. They're BEAUTIFUL. âĪïļ
@stephonicle @TheLonelyDaff
Thanks for the help! Any tips for repoting? I think they're going to turn to mush of they stay that close together. Is the big one splitting?
I sent a message before but I don't think it sent.
@PlantsForFun thanks 😁. You may find thay some of them are the same plant with multiple heads which is fine. Lithopses are clumping plants which as they are all the same type and similar stages they can stay together or you can break them up into different pots carefully.
If they are the same clump like this you can leave them but they take along time to get like this. https://www.reddit.com/r/succulents/comments/b175j0/an_old_clump_of_lithops_this_is_what_happens_over/

They all look like they are starting to split really apart from the two in the middle which look closer to splitting to me.

@TheLonelyDaff YIKES. They seem to be very specific when it comes to watering. Anything else I should keep in mind?
@TheLonelyDaff I didn't understand, which ones are splitting?
@PlantsForFun you can be more cautious as they prefer it dry than when there are signs like the top goes flat or more wrinkles for when they are thirsty. Its more overwatering that is the issue as that's easier to do.
They all are starting to. The ones in blue are further along than the ones in green, ans the crack is pushing up and splitting because of the new leaves.

But when you pot it on you can get away with a small water even while they are splitting, it is just that more care is needed. I have had to do this to a couple of small ones and will do a post on it soon 😉.

As for watering techniques you can bottom water or top water but around the plant. But they do need more gritty soil compared to other plants.
@TheLonelyDaff can I grow them in Perlite?
Perlite with a bit of soil something like 90% Perlite 10% soil (give or take 5%) will be ok. It maybe a bit on the light side but will work. I think i have seen it done before.
@TheLonelyDaff is this okay with my lithops? Is it going to die?
@PlantsForFun probably its ok most likely bruising from transport or not quite ideal growning in the greenhouse , those leaves will get absorbed by the plant in the nexy month or so anyway. I have had a few that have had some minor bits like the one on the left before.

Keep an eye on it for a few days days and see if it changes
@TheLonelyDaff Thanks for everything 💖
