why is my tomato so small?

i have a tomato plant in my backyard. the first time i saw a tomato, the tomato was really small, and it was already red. i thought i should let it get bigger, but after a couple of days it went bad. a new tomato grew and it was even smaller, but i decided i should pick it off when its red. this isn’t a cherry or grape tomato plant, and cherry or grape tomatoes have different shapes. is this normal? what should i do?
18ft to light, direct

I have tomato plants too! If it’s hot outside and they’re in constant direct sunlight, heat stress will prevent them from growing properly. I had this issue and moved them to part shade, my tomatoes are back to growing the proper size and ripening evenly.
