What happened to my aloe?!?!
It was THRIVING. Two days later the inside is dark red and mushy (aloe equivalent of root rot?) and in pruning his poor leaves they were VERY wet. But, WHY? Did nothing new or different. Repotted it recently but it seemed happy the first few days and now this π

Oh nooo ! That definitely looks like rot of some sorts.. did you water it 12 days ago ? Also, how long does it take for the top soil to dry out ? I would maybe take it our & inspect the roots & stem, if itβs rot try to take off any dead or mushy stuff, if you have cinnamon dab that in the fresh wounds & let it callous for a day or two before putting back in the soil..
@Artistic_Stoner yes, I think weβre on the right track, because the first thought I had was I over or under watered it during repotting, but the soil is dry. Drier than I wouldβve expectedβ¦ so, asking this at my own expenseβis it possible when I watered it i wasnβt careful and accidentally saturated the core rather than the base?
@Artistic_Stoner cinnamon! Really! Ok Iβm gonna try it π€
Hm, well as long as between the leaves didnβt get water & sit in them I donβt think so.. root/stem rot is a silent killer with no indication till the damage is done π if you take it out & the roots look fine but the stem is rotted, then I think it may have sat in water at the base too long. If the roots are also mushy, maybe the whole pot was wet too long. Not sure if your plant card is accurate, but if you donβt have a drainage hole & fast draining succulent soil I feel that may be the culprit.. with no drainage that means no air flow & your aloe may have sat in damp soil too long π£ & yes, cinnamon is a must have for me! It helps heal/callous & protects the open wounds from fungal problems!
Sorry if I didnβt say it right. I suspected I had possibly oversaturated the soil (I mean, itβs happened before!) but upon inspection the soil is bone dry but the leaves you can literally squeeze water out of. So I am thinking I inadvertently filled the inside of the leaves with water that theyβve been trying to soak up, but without giving it water at the base. Essentially, I missed my target with my spray bottle, and almost killed post mALOEn. Hoping your cinnamon, some dry air and some nutrients at the base will bring him back!
@WildNorth i did not know about the aspirin trick, thatβs awesome to know thank you !! Ah okay, well seems we may have found what happened! Iβve had condensation drip on one of my succulents without me knowing & it completely ruined my poor guy, now I have a little blower to make sure water doesnβt sit anywhere on them cause they do not like it! Love his name, hope Malone makes a speedy recovery βΊοΈ Sending green love π
@Artistic_Stoner OMG! That was one of my theories, because the ones around it were a little damp looking too (but the elephant bush had a growth spurt so π€·π»ββοΈ).
Seriously the thing I love about this app is how much more we all learn through sharing v googling π

@WildNorth haha itβs been a rollercoaster the first half of the year, I had wrong soil & wrong pots & almost lost a dozen to root rot. Luckily Iβm good at noticing changes & caught it before they completely died, patience but they are coming back! & this app helped me with a lot of it, I love this app & the people on it, always so helpful! Plus Iβm a visual person, so seeing peoples problems & them explaining has helped me identify problems with mine π§
@WildNorth Iβm sorry I didnβt see this! Thatβs exactly how I felt, I almost gave up but have so much invested.. we absolutely can help eachother, unfortunately I didnβt help you much π
