does anyone have a recipe for DIY insecticide soap? I hav...

#greggivesback
I’ve been battling spider mites for months on my dahlia! I’ve tried all kinds of insecticide soaps and sprays but the only thing that has worked is spraying the plant with 70% isopropyl alcohol and a little bit of water. Someone suggested that to me and it got rid of them in a flash! I wish I’d done it before they had a chance to almost kill my dahlia. But that is what worked for me, finally lol. Good luck with yours, they are the worst but it sounds like you’re catching them early. πŸ’šπŸŒ±
If you do that, test the spray or rub the alcohol with a q tip on one leaf first to make sure your plant doesn’t have a reaction to it. Wait 24 hours and if it’s good, you can spray it. Hope that helps. 😊
The spruce has had many recipes that worked for me. Here is a link:

But here is my go to that I use for pest control:

I know some people don’t use neem oil. But I found a recipe I swear by. I have posted it everywhere.

24 oz spray bottle
1 tsp Neem oil
1 1/2 tsp Castile soap
3-10 drops peppermint oil.
1 L water

Shake in bottle. Apply liberally to dirt and leaves. It is antibacterial, anti microbial, antifungal and pests hate peppermint. It’s a great leaf cleaner. I apply at least monthly.

In this case, like @BabeVila said, after the alcohol, I would follow up with saturating the plant (not on gardenias though, I read they don’t like soap)
I also just purchased this for prevention of future problems!
Dawn dish soap, water, dash of distilled vinegar
thanks
I LOVE #Natria and the Systemic Houseplant insect control ...

BUT! My GO-TO is rubbing alcohol in a bottle like @BabeVila said. I have bottles all over the house. If you have plants, you'll have bugs. (:
@TheOddAsity
I've been using your recipe for over a month. Some of my plants suffer from it, so I watch their reaction. This may be ridiculously nit picking but there's over 33 ounces in a liter. I just fill my spray bottle with water and add the neem, soap and peppermint.
@plantstate πŸ˜‚ not ridiculous or nit picky. I’m laughing because I realize I only had a 26 oz water bottle and I just did what you did, fill it up. So when I typed it out I looked at my spray bottle to look at how big it needed to be. I totally forgot that normally I have those bottles that are at least a quart/litreπŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ. None of my plants have reacted to it. But, I also blot the leaves after I spray with a microfiber cloth. And neem oil can make plants photosensitive so that needs to be taken into consideration as well as when (time of day) you use it.
@sarahsalith I love the Natria too! For some reason, Amazon won’t shut the systemic houseplant insect control to me 😒
