Forrest is growing to tall, I want to propragate it, but ...

#Philodendron My plant is getting kind of tall and losing some of its balance, greg says that I can propagate using its stem, but I am not sure where exatcly to make the proper cut! Please see some images below! Any advice is welcomed, I think my plant is long overdue for a trim! I’ve marked locations where I think it’s safe to cut for propagation in the image below
1ft to light, indirect
7” pot without drainage
Last watered 3 weeks ago
As in my previous response, making cuttings and rooting plants is best done in the spring when the plant itself is more active. The locations where you’ve marked for cutting are good locations, but I think cutting it at the pink circle, and putting both those nodes under soil, would give you the best chance for rooting. Then I’d wait till the others branches get longer before you cut them.
@SucculentBE Dear Barbara, thank you so much for all your responses!!! πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€— they were very helpful!
@AliveMymumrose I agree with @SucculentBE I was thinking the red/pink circles and leaving the rest for later on too.

If you’ll pardon me for sticking my curious nose in, I just wanted to see if you’ve watered recently, because your soil looks a bit dried out. You see how it’s pulling away from the sides of the pot? If it is a peat based soil, it can go hydrophobic, making it *really * hard for it to take up water again. Or maybe you’ve noticed that water just runs straight off it? So I just wanted to kindly suggest when you water to actually soak the whole pot until the soil is fully resaturated. Probably at least 30min…to maybe 60min depending on how dry it is ✨🌿 Hope that’s okay of me, I’m a nosy person and I love plants πŸ˜‚πŸ«ΆπŸΌ
@DreamMachine omg not at all! The feedback is so helpful! I actually watered it yesterday or the day before β€” so I am surprised it’s so dry!! The problem with this pot the plant is in is that there is no drainage hole and it’s made out of thick paper so I get nervous about overwatering! I got it like that at the grocery store!
@AliveMymumrose oh crazy! Like the actual dark greenish pot is actually thick cardboard or just the base of it? Thats wild…why do shops do that? πŸ™ƒ You should be able to water it thoroughly until water is freely draining out without worrying about the pot! Silly plant shops. When soils like this are dry they repel water, so I’m not surprised it still looks dry!

Do you have another pot? I bet you could very easily pull the whole plant (with its soil and root ball) out and transfer to nursery pot with good drainage holes. Then, you can still keep it in this decorative pot, but it will be in an inside pot that can be taken out when you need to water if that makes sense? That’s how I have almost all of my plants. They’re all potted in clear plastic nursery pots, and then stuck in prettier decorative pots β€œcache pots.”
@DreamMachine I actually bought it at my local grocery store so no surprise on the weird pot, I guess they were going for sustainable pot! That is a great idea! I will switch the pot tonight!!
