How do I successfully propagate a piece of #pearlecheveri...
I'm giving the mother plant to my grandma, but I want to succeed in trying to propagate a little bit of it to keep for myself. How can I do so in a successful way? I haven't done anything yet.

@Catplantaddict This link was sent to me yesterday because I had the same question. It explains it perfectly!

I've had the most success by just putting it on top of the soil in the pot of the mother plant (but any other succulent will work) and forgetting about it. When the plant it's in needs water, it gets water. That way I don't overwater it. In a few weeks it has roots and in a couple months it's grown a pup โบ๏ธ
@Lifeis2short really said it all. I have a 12x12 flat, about 1 inch deep with succulent mix that I just lay them on. Like she said, it'll grow roots or leaves (random which comes first). You don't really need to wet the soil if you don't want, they get everything they need from the mother leaf. I wait to moisten the soil til the mother leaf is close to depleted myself, but you could if you really wanted to though.
@Lifeis2short I'm confused. I don't understand what "it" refers to, and it seems you are referring multiple things as "it" (like at the first sentence compared to the last)
@princesspitstop the video doesn't say what technique to use for my plant, so I don't know what to do.
@FairyFly I don't know if I should use this technique, Marissa almost sounds like she is using "it" to refer to the mother plant, but earlier she uses "it" as something else.
I'm so confused. I've never done successful propagation with succulents or any other plant before.

@Catplantaddict The way propagating my Echeveria was explained to me, and I'm sure propagating all echeverias are the same. was to pull a leaf off of the plant and place the leaf flat on moist soil. Put it in a sunny window or grow light and It will grow a whole new plant from that leaf.
@princesspitstop is right. In the wild, leaves will fall off onto the dirt below, eventually grow roots and mini leaves. It will live off the juices and nutrients of the leaf until it is shriveled and depleted. By then, the roots will have established themselves in the soil for water, and have it's own leaves for sun. You got this! Don't think too much and have fun with it. ๐
@Catplantaddict @FairyFly Here's mine! I prop lifted him from the grocery store. He was on the ground so it's not like I stole it. He was going to die if I didn't rescue him! Look at me justifying! Haha
As far as my experience, of which I unfortunately have way too much bc of succulent neglect, goes:
- Take a healthy leaf and either gently pull it off the mother plant or pull it just enough so that it's still attached but has like an open wound?
- Wait and watch as it grows roots/leaves/a whole ass new plant
- Profit!
PlantsWithKrystal on youtube also has some good shorts on it, she literally just gathers up leaves, strings them together, hangs them in a sunny place and they sprout roots!
I've left mine on top of the soil in a metal bowl with the parent plant under a coffee table bc I forgot about them and they're growing surprisingly well
Good luck!

@Catplantaddict when I say "it" I was referring to the leaf you're trying to propagate
