Whatβs going on with my tulip?
Itβs just popping open π₯ I thought it was doing so well but now weβllβ¦. #help
4ft to light, direct
2β pot with drainage
Last watered 3 years ago
@FabRubbercup That is what they do when it is at the end of the bloom. It must have been in that store longer than I thought. The bloom will dry up and fall off. Then you can cut off the stalk but DONβT CUT OFF THE FOLIAGE. Let it stay and continue watering as needed. When the foliage dries up, you can cut it off at the soil line. Then if you want it to come up next spring, it will need to be either in frozen winter ground or in a deep freeze π₯Ά til next spring.
@AC73LoveCats what about if I just keep it outside till next spring? It Washington, you think thatβs cold enough?
@FabRubbercup Probably not cause it wonβt be underground and may not entirely π₯Ά freeze or not consistently. I didnβt think you had access to outside for plants. But if you do, plant the bulb in the ground in the fall.
@AC73LoveCats well no and yes, I have a small balcony. On the second floor.
@AC73LoveCats so ya think I could just get the bulb outta the dirt now, stick it in the freezer with a wet paper towel around it in a baggy ?
@FabRubbercup No. The foliage has to collect as much food as it can for the bulb to have enough energy to survive the winter and come up again next spring. Wait til the foliage has completely dried up. Make sure it has enough water (but not enough to rot) and sunlight until then.
@AC73LoveCats okey dokey, I really really appreciate the patience Iβm so slow sometimes π«Άπ».
@FabRubbercup I donβt think youβre slow! I am happy to help! Are you anticipating having a house at some point? If so, all you will have to do for beautiful tulips, is plant them in the ground in the fall, forget about them, then enjoy them in the spring! Here are some of my tulips from previous years and will have more soon. The spring foliage is coming up. Here is what it looks like right now, then how it will look soon. Look below in comments for later.
@AC73LoveCats Thank you π«Άπ»π₯Ή I am sadly not, but I will try and make them as comfortable as I can. Maybe in the spring Ill put them on my balcony in a bigger pot.
@FabRubbercup Well we never know absolutely, our future. I have a joke: Want to make God laugh? Tell him your plans! Actually when you take it out of the freezer, I wouldnβt disturb it in its pot as it awakens. But if you plant more bulbs in pots, sure, plant them in a larger pot if you want.
@AC73LoveCats haha π
I sadly didnβt get the joke. So I should keep the bulb in the dirt, in the freezer?
@AC73LoveCats oooooooh lmao π€£ Iβm sure I wouldβve got the joke right away if it was in person. Lol π thaf is funny.
@AC73LoveCats and dope I now have a plan π
@FabRubbercup Good! Yes, talking like this, we kind of lose some communication aids. I intended to say, it still may happen that you have a house, later on, even though right now you donβt think you will.
@AC73LoveCats awww ty I do hope so β€οΈ
