#Schefflera
Alot of people opt to mix their own soil like for example my dracaena pinguicula needed a well draining soil, i bought a succulent cacti mix from the store from miracle grow i believe i repotted the plant and gave a full water. Next day i noticed the soil is SOPPING wet, pinguicula HATE sitting in wet soil so i had to unpot it and then remix my soil with 80% perlite to account for the organic soils absorbtion so i dont rot my pinguicula. Thats how to prevent that root rot by keeping a close eye on it. I know schefflera are VERY dramatic sometimes but if that trunk is squishy i believe its time for a chop to try to save the rest of that plant. Id look online to see how best to chop and prop schefflera because i dont know that answer but if you take that plant out of that soil and its squishy you know you definitely have root rot its just a matter of how far it went up that trunk.
it's definitely overwatered! i'd take the plant out to check for root rot AND (important!!) look at the size of the roots. to me it looks like the pot might be too big - it should only be an inch or two bigger than the rootball. make sure the pot has drainage. your soil mix looks great, just let it dry out a lot more (im talking weeks here, until it's light brown) and use a chopstick/bamboo stick to aerate the top few inches.
