Moonstone keeps chewing on my plants! What is the most ef...
Moonstone chews on both nontoxic and toxic plants. I can't stop her! I've tried Cayenne, vinegar water, etc. How can I stop her? These are the plants she has chewed on - #ArecaPalm, #SpiderPlant, and #DracaenaMarginata. I haven't taken her to see the vet at all since she showed no side effects at all.

Moonstone is adorable! I try to hide my plants with less inviting plants.. this is up to your cats discretion though. My cats personally will avoid specific plants for whatever reason, I use those plants to guard the other ones they are more interested in. I also make it impossible for them to fit their paws between plants. I'll use knickknacks other plants spray bottles ect.. extra enticing plants (spider plants, wandering dudes, dracanea marginara like you said, boat lillies and more) can be hung on off the ceiling too. Certain plants have a numbing effect and certain cats like it and aren't so much effected by it. Mine throws up and I can see what he ate ð neem oil deters him for a little bit too, as well as orange peels but I find they attract fruit flies. Best of luck cat plant friend! Chloe and Opie fighting over the box for fun ð
@PlantBeach cute! The only problem is that my room has a really high ceiling (I'm talking like at least 10 feet high, if not more), so I have a loft bed. There are little straps underneath my bed that I can hang plants from, but I don't have a lot of hanging pots. Most of my plants are gathered near or on my desk, but sometimes she hops up and eats some of the plants ð
. Thanks for the advice though!
@PlantBeach adorable!!!!
I suggest planting specific plants that she can eat and will enjoy. Many people do this and it works.
Some suggestions:
Catnip
Cat grass
Rosemary
Thyme
Cilantro
Parsley
I suggest the herbs and grass because they are healthy and taste good for kitty and should distract kitty from the plants you would rather her not eat.
They love spider plants because they are hallucinogenic! I had a coonhound that also loved them so I feel your pain.

I hear they don't like citrus spray @Catplantaddict. You could spray it on the outside of the pots.
@SuperbRaspfern every time I get cat grass, it turns yellow, and she stops eating it (the yellow may be caused by the fact it is wheatgrass, but idk). I'm also growing thyme and cilantro from seed, but so far, no progress. I do have some rosemary, I can try propagating some for her.
@SuperbRaspfern yeah, my cat is kinda picky ð
. The good thing is that I have a large abundance of Rosemary in my yard.
Oh yeah, he would just eat it to nubs, spider plants won't hurt them. Honestly, I think they get a bit addicted to the hallucinating effects they get from it. They became furry drug addicts! ðąðķ
I gotta say though spider plants are REALLY hearty I still have mine 20+ years later along with many of its pups. It's fine I enjoy chatting with you!âĪïļ

I soak cotton rounds in lemon grass EO and our cat HATES it. Tried several others that helped but she still climbed the pony palm. I bury the bottle without a lid in that one and it works great. I have to repeat drops on the rounds once a month but it works. Find a smell she hates and maybe it will help. Peppermint, orange, lavender and some others are supposed to repel cats. Good luck
This is a situation where I am tremendously lucky, for once. Before we got our 2 new Abyssinians I got citrus oil, sticky tape, etc. and was very worried because I hadnât had this many plants when we got our last cats. Well I lucked out because the ONLY plant that interests them is the one most benign to them, Austin the 49 year old ponytail palm, completely harmless to them. Hallelujah! They are smart or savvy enough to have no interest in other plants, even the harmless spider plants.
@ImmenseJade50 Oh my goodness what a precious assortment of fur balls ðĨ°. I don't know how I missed this a week ago, I'm so glad I stumbled on it!!!! âĪïļ
@ImmenseJade50 SAME! I swear I have to have a fur baby with me at all times ðķðūð
Another idea I thought of today @Catplantaddict. My cat will eat/bite ANY plant she can get to. It's just a ðĪ too cold to put some of my plants out so I was trying to think of ways to keep her away. I look around.... balloons. ðĄ My cat hates being near balloons. They are now strategically placed around the edges of the table where she can jump, surrounding my plants. Just a thought if you don't mind balloons everywhere and your kitty hates them. Lol.
@FairyFly I can try that! Nice idea!
@Catplantaddict ABORT ABORT... BALLOONS DO NOT WORK, I REPEAT, BALLOONS DO NOT WORK!! ð
@FairyFly got it.
