How do I take care of my baby when it's like this
they love humidity so try misting. Iโ€™m not big on misting so i ended up putting it in a terrarium and it thrived
Thank you
@Memesoblessed Welcome to the GREG community! Due to the lack of a description of the state the Nerve plant is in. I am going to attempt a little help. Because itโ€™s difficult to see what is actually going on. Drooping leaves on a Nerve plant (Fittonia) can be caused by a few factors, including improper watering, insufficient light, low humidity, or even temperature fluctuations. Addressing these issues can help restore the plant's vitality. Here's a more detailed look at the potential causes and solutions:
1. Watering Problems:
Overwatering:
Soggy soil can lead to root rot, which can cause yellowing and droopy leaves. Nerve plants prefer their soil moist but not soaked.
Underwatering:
Allowing the soil to dry out completely can also cause leaves to droop. Nerve plants need consistent moisture. Light:
Insufficient Light: Nerve plants need bright, indirect light. Too little light can cause leaves to droop and appear pale.
3. Humidity:
Low Humidity: Nerve plants thrive in high humidity environments. Dry air can cause brown leaf tips and overall droopiness.
4. Other Factors:
Temperature Fluctuations:
Nerve plants are sensitive to sudden temperature changes, which can stress them and cause leaf drop. Root-bound:
If the roots are tightly packed in the pot, they can be restricted, leading to droopy leaves. Consider repotting if the roots are visible through the drainage holes.
Pests and Diseases:
While less common, pests and diseases can also affect leaf health and cause droopiness. Solutions:
Adjust Watering: Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, ensuring excess water drains out.
Move to Brighter Light: Provide bright, indirect light, avoiding direct sunlight which can scorch leaves.
Increase Humidity: Misting, placing the plant on a pebble tray, or using a humidifier can help.
Maintain Stable Temperatures: Keep the plant away from drafts and sudden temperature changes.
Repot if Necessary: If the plant is root-bound, repot it into a slightly larger pot with fresh, well-draining soil.
Inspect for Pests and Diseases: If you suspect pests or diseases, take appropriate action. Hope this helps, Happy Growing!!
Oh I love these! I have five! They love water and humidity. My three, plus the spider plant at work!
What kind of humidifier do you use ?
@IconHotpeppers so beautiful
When should I repot her ?
@Memesoblessed I notice your plant card indicates you have the plant in direct sunlight. That could be the cause of the leaf drop. They almost look sunburnt. As everyone has already said, these plants thrive in high humidity and bright indirect light. I have several and they have been so easy to grow and propagate for me personally. I keep most of mine in an indoor greenhouse with grow lights. I have a humidifier in my main plant room but there is no humidifier near these because they are in a different room. My plants still get plenty of humidity by being grouped around all the other plants in the greenhouse. The first 2 plants are my propagations. Itโ€™s only been 2 months and they are growing like crazy. The other 3 are my larger mother plants. I used a mix of regular soil, peat moss, perlite and coco coir chips as my medium when repotting.
@Shells_Garden I donโ€™t have a green house but I will keep them out of sunlight. Should I purchase some grow lights or something ?
@IconHotpeppers very cute set up!
Sheโ€™s probably just super thirsty! Fittonias are dramatic like that โ€” a bit of water and she should perk up again soon. They bounce back fast!
@AliveWatermelon no you donโ€™t have to. They will do fine 3 ft away from any bright window. Just avoid direct sun exposure during the heat of the day and make sure they are away from drafts, the A/C or heater. Here is my greenhouse. Itโ€™s just plastic cover and wire shelves so nothing too fancy. I think I bought it on Amazon for like $50 last year. You can also put your plant on top of a tray of pebbles filled with water to increase moisture/humidity around your plant. Before I got the greenhouse, I kept the large pink one on my windowsill in an east facing window. It got morning sun which isnโ€™t too strong and then they got indirect sun the rest of the day. You donโ€™t need a greenhouse or grow lights, I just preferred it for my home office so I could keep more plants in there and I didnโ€™t have to move them everyday off the windowsill! I added the grow lights myself.
@azrax0x I hope so
@Shells_Garden so beautiful
