It is not dead, this is how the plant grows in the wild. It's creeper and when it touches the soil, oftentimes browns and leaflets get this dull color, similar to a plant as new leaves form, older ones fade away (with crassula it's a tiny leaflets). The top part is green as it should be in a healthy plant. You might want to consider repotting to a bigger size pot.
