#TechTeamTuesday 4/4

👋 Hey #GregGang,

Thanks to @Xou’s nudging, we realized we haven’t updated y’all on what we’ve been up to in almost 4 months. We’ve been super busy and it’s time to share what’s been going on with the #GregTeam.

1️⃣ First, I have to brag on the team a bit! Today Greg was named a Webby Award Honoree in the Education and Reference App category.

“Being selected as an Official Honoree means an entry has been selected as one of the best on the Internet as part of the Webby judging process. Less than 20% of entries in the Webby Awards are deemed Official Honorees.” - The Webby Awards

That follows up last week’s selection of Greg as one of the Apple App Store’s Best Plant-Care Apps.

🏆 Two huge wins for our team! 🏆

2️⃣ What have we been up to? A few things actually!

First, we’ve been working on exciting new partnerships with BIG plant retailers. The goal being to get Greg into as many plant lovers’ hands as possible! Expect a huge update on that to come soon.

Second, our engineering team has been focused on shoring up the stability of our systems. Tens of thousands of people now rely on Greg for tending to their plants, and so we need to make sure we’re always online. We won’t bore you with the details, but Greg’s backend systems now run 80% more efficiently and we’re working on a major upgrade to the way we calculate and deliver care reminders.

We have a new Greg status page that tracks our uptime: https://status.greg.app/.

3️⃣ Finally, we need feedback on what you honestly think about Greg. We’re constantly fine tuning our development roadmap as we move forward. You’ll always have #GregFeedback when you’re inspired in the middle of the night with a cool new feature idea, but right now you have @Alex, @shaheen, @Martin and myself watching this thread. Lay it on us! 🙂

Hope you all have a wonderful day,

-rjg-

OMG 😱 THIS IS SOOOOO AWESOME TO HEAR! CONGRATULATIONS!
YAY TEAM GREAT JOB. Well deserved award 🥰👍💯
Amazing!! Congrats on the big wins! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Awesome 👌 👍
Yay #gregteam great work!!!
Congrats! I haven’t been here long, but I like what I’ve seen and my plants seem happier for it.

Re:suggestions, things I’ve seen. Some may be my lack of experience:
- plants with strange watering patterns, like lithops, don’t seem to be handled well. Still learning here.
- I can’t figure out how to browse social. Difficult to discover hash tags. No search?
- suggestions wrt repotting and fertilizing could be improved. When I repot a plant, the timeline says the fertilization schedule was recalculated, but it doesn’t appear to be. The app recommends repotting every 6 months at latest, but doesn’t offer a reminder at 6mos. If a plant is struggling or small and I repot it in the same size pot just to change out the soil, there is no way to tell the app that I repotted other than to change the pot size and change it back right away.

Little quality of life things mostly. Good luck!
@CordialWildyam thanks Jason these are all good feedback. Welcome by the way!
You said one of the best Apple App store’s best plant-care apps. You mistyped. It’s THE best plant-care app. Congratulations
@CordialWildyam yeah with lithops you have to let them tell you when to water them. The app will have no way of knowing accurately. I have had to hit snooze for 4 months continuously. That’s one plant I don’t bother putting in the app because once you see wrinkles you water. If no wrinkles then don’t water. That’s the best way I have found. But Greg is great for reminding you of when you last watered and especially for certain plants. But I definitely know what you mean. It took me a year to learn lithops and their habits. And the app will definitely not be able to accurately help with lithops and may not ever really be able to since they are unpredictable depending on conditions
@SirLiquorice Agreed! but maybe plant-specific advice. Like instead of just “my soil should be very dry by now” it could say “if I’m soft and wrinkled”
But make no mistake, even the data tracking is invaluable!
@CordialWildyam yeah that is a good idea. We could definitely come up with some ideas like that to help the app. @Lithopslover and @Jana85 would have some great ideas on how to help people that are new to lithops I am sure. They are super easy once you learn them, but very easy to water when you shouldn’t and make simple mistakes if just learning them. The only thing the guy at the nursery told me as far as advice when I bought my first two was. “Keep them dry.” That’s all the advice he gave. 😂 But it was kinda a enough to give me an idea. But I had to do research on my own. I learned most from the lithops themselves and monitoring them closely.
@SirLiquorice @CordialWildyam I have some splitting as we speak! (From Sunday)
The only feedback/suggestion i have is make the Apple only options also available for android
Congratulations!!!!!!
This app honestly helps my mental health and well being. Being apart of a community where I get to share my passion and grow my knowledge is truly amazing. For feedback, I would love to suggest a feed page where one is dedicated to seeing new posts from your friends, and then the other feed being a space to explore new people and posts!
Hey! Congrats guys! Well deserved.

Suggestions:
Adding a plant (identify it, click on it, add to oasis) - if I rename the plant then it locks me out of any other editing. I have to type in a name, hit Save, then go right back in to continue editing/setting up plant profile.

Please please let us have a search function! Whether by hashtags or just SEO/keyword. I’d love either and or both.

Maybe even a way to save/bookmark/favorite posts that we want to keep, like making our own reference library.

Whew! That’s it I think. Happy to help and so grateful for you! 🌱☀️❤️
First of all, congratulations!!
I love the app so much.
I was thinking about this the other day as I was propagating some plants, I wish we had that choice to maybe on your profile have your plants and then propagations like a tab, then when we transfer to soil or if they die, we can either remove it or upgrade it to the plants tab!
I hope this makes sense but just something I thought of 😊
Yay!! That’s amazing!! 💚💚
So many congratulations!!!! Well deserved! 💚💚💚💚
Congratulations!
I love the #techteamtuesday update, and congratulations on the app being honoured! I'm enjoying the app a lot and use it very frequently.
Things I am wishing for:
1. The plant ID to be better. It only gets about one in five of my plants correct. When I add something I've learnt to just disregard what it suggests, and just add plant and edit it later. Using the 'other options' has never come up with a suitable suggestion for me. I use PlantNet instead for id.
2. I want to be able to see how many plants need watering, it disappeared after an update and never returned. I'm on android.
3. Equality of function for those on Android. Apple seems to be prioritised, or a better fit with the app or something.
4. All the things listed by @RealSimpleMama
💚😊🌿
Congratulations!! I believe it! This app is amazing 💚
@LuxuryMint It's not that Apple is priotized. It's that iOS is a simpler platform. Android is more complex. It's easier to roll out new updates quicker on iOS because of that, and that's why apps on Apple get updated first. It's just a technology issue ☺️
Y'all are awesome I just started this app and I absolutely love it, congratulations 🎉 #GregGang #gregteam
Well deserved!! We appreciate all the hard work & efforts put into Greg!! When I receive a notification that someone has replied to a comment I’ve made, or tagged me & I click on the notification… it takes me to the beginning of the Entire post… is there a way to have it go to the comment I am tagged in on that post? It is difficult (depending on the number of comments) to find.
@LuxuryMint I also wish my android oasis would match my Apple oasis. I have to re enter all of my plants to use my android tablet. My iPhone and iPad connect the oasis but I can’t view it on my Samsung
Congratulations 🎊. Such a good app, great new things happening all the time!Awesome 👏👏👏👏👏👏. I’m with @JustMeCheri regarding Comments & having to go through entire post to see. Also on the notification that someone liked a Moment- it takes you to that person, not which moment. The moment pic is so teeny you often can’t tell which one it is. Reiterating what others have said a Search would be fabulous. It’s just too cumbersome now to find a group you want to see or want to explore. Regarding care I’d like to see a way to account for rain for outside plants. Right now if i understand correctly if I “water” when it rains it’s telling Greg the plant is thirsty and consequently will increase watering frequency. If a rain button could tell the algorithm to delay a watering cycle or something like that? Also I’d like to see a RIP tab for the plants we tried so hard to help live 🥹. Im very sentimental about a few🪴🪴. And then there’s some I’d rather not recall 😝😜🤪
Congratulations
Congratulations 🥳
#GregFeedback #gregteam @RJG @Alex @Shaheen @Martin, @Kierstin, This is fantastic news, and, so well deserved! A huge congratulations 🍾🎊! All the hard work is paying off ! I find this App delightful and even for digitally challenged people like myself, fairly easy to use and to navigate. Although a search function for certain posts that would expedite searching for people and their past posts would be helpful. Come to think of it;This search function should also include the plants in our Oasis. Especially for a plant fiend like me! If someone has more than 💯 plants there would be no need to scroll through the entire oasis in order to find a particular plant. When I water my plants I love the snooze button, would there be a way to change the amount of water we just gave a plant. Most of my plants in 3” plastic pots cannot handle a 1/2 cup of water. I know you are all working very hard on all the various suggestions, I also know that you cannot make all people happy all of the time, but I am very grateful for everything you’ve have accomplished so far! Keep up the great work 👍👍👏👏
Congratulations! We all knew you were that good. I need a SEARCH to find old posts, peoples’ names, and hashtags, please! It should be your first priority at this point.
A few things I think would be nice is
-recommend soil, pots, and humidity level for each plant. Also adding to the plant card at what the level of humidity and temperature is (I have a few in a green house and I would like to know I am doing right by the plant)
Yesssss!
Congratulations, so deserved. Greg is a great app. Always striving to be the best at educating, sharing, and providing a safe social environment. Thank You
Congrats!!🤗🥳 Very much deserved!💚
Suggestions from a new user: 1. A place on each plant’s card to put free text comments, such as where my plant came from or whatever I want to remember about it. 2. A user-created wiki for each type of plant with specific information like how to get it to flower again, how to propagate, or any idiosyncrasies.
@ValeriaJ #plantbabies as in a bit of genealogy. That would be cool! Especially if one came from another Greg user? I hadn't thought of that till just now, but I would really appreciate it whether I got one cutting in the mail or if they shipped me several and I did it over time. #DutchmansPipe #BonsaiTrees Meanwhile, #GregFeedback the only thing I haven't seen mentioned, but I would like, is the option to eliminate some of the drop-down menus. Yes/no is a switch. "On" could point to "Yes"? Also as far as UI, I find it a bit cumbersome to name plants then immediately move to when it was last watered (usually "today"). It's not terrible, but can we hide the keyboard there? I, for one have just bookmarked https://status.greg.app/ !
Congratulations #teamgreg! That’s amazing and very well deserved. Also just first of many recognitions I’m sure Greg will get in time to come. Cheers 🥂 Also it’s great to have the #TechTeamTuesday back!
This is amazing!!! Way to go 🤩
Congratulations #Greg

I tried many plant apps before I found greg, and let me tell you, none of them touch how well greg works! The ones I used killed most of my plants... Greg is the best plant app out there...🥰🥰🥰

Exciting news, cand congrats for all the great achievements! ❤

Is there any info about the redesign of the oasis page? Is that still coming?
Great job 👏🏻 congratulations so proud of u
@xou @alex and I were talking about this yesterday. It's definitely still in the plans!
Congratulations on your rewards. Isn’t it nice to know all the work up front (helping us all, answering questions & keeping us informed) on the multiple pages conversations and behind the scenes it is being recognized. And I’m sure myself and all the #Gregsters would agree.
@RJG I have to post again. If it wasn’t for this app I wouldn’t have met some amazing people I adore. @Sassylimey she is my best friend and we text and talk a lot. Plus I love her British accent. @Stall54Jo she is such a lovely person. @HoyaAddict she is very knowledgeable and such a wonderful person. @RealSimpleMama @PlantMompy @FirstCanna @KrunchyWrapz @jaysjungle @vvvelo @Captjo @dreamlettuce @TruthfulApricot @Vjunc @jillybean @AnthuriumQueen these people are amazing. Plus the Greg’s community is top notch. Thank you for creating such a safe place for us to post. I love 💕 #gregteam
@TwistedThreads awe Kristy! You’re amazing thank you for all you do for us and all the information you’ve shared ❤️

Huge congrats to the Greg team this app is amazing and I’m obsessed not only with plants now but this whole community thank you guys for making this platform amazing!
Yes I finally made my video on TikTok for you guys even tho I can't afford the 30 bucks right now just the community is worth being apart of . Can't imagine there's a better place to bring your questions an show off your newest babys thanks for being here for us all
Aaawww Kristy you're the best, I'm so thankful for the #gregteam for this amazing app and for our friendship which wouldn't have happened without Greg. @TwistedThreads 😍😘💯
@ValeriaJ YES 🙌🏻!!! I have too many props to really stay on top of.
I know I’ve said this often…but the succulent ID’s. I know there are so many but really, I keep trying to use it and it’s usually incorrect. I’ve also noticed that many people are misidentifying their plants and I’m not sure how to help them find the correct category. When I do add one and add it I have to go out and then into my oasis to add the specifics. Kind of time consuming. Going off a common request is the plant graveyard and prop sections. I’ve lost so many with this current plague and I try to add that to my spreadsheet…but again more time. Congratulations on the awards!! That is a HUGE prop to you guys! (See what I did there? 😂
Oh! How about a Tropical soil type?
@TwistedThreads Thank you! You are a very beloved person.
I agree with @CordialWildyam, a soil type that describes the chunky airy type of soil for aroids etc would be great. It makes a big difference to watering frequency I find.
@ExaltedBibi we got you on your post right Carmen?
Fantastic! Congratulations to those who work so hard behind the scenes!
Yay! Fantastic and you guys deserve it. Lots of hard work goes into an app folks.
Honest request: I’d like to see a search feature to find a friend you have on here. And a way to privately message that friend.
Hey congrats yall! So proud! I have thoughts and a question.

Question: do you have a timeline for affiliate help with YouTube channels? I seem to remember you guys were paying out social media posts for Gregg mentions, and I have a pretty big YouTube channel. I would love to help support you guys and be compensated for it! YouTube.com/c/RealSimpleMama

Thoughts: I am continuing to train my watering reminders as there is still quite a few plants that I have to snooze regularly. Hopefully the AI will update soon.

Finally, on the forum end of the app, I am still seeing the same posts, repeated over and over as I scroll. Then it also is showing me posts from literally months ago. I don’t feel that I am being shown an accurate feed of new posts. I’m happy to take screenshots, but basically the first two or three threads that show up when I open the forum, get repeated over and over as I scroll through.
Congratulations #GregTeam
