#whoknew Who knew gardening helped released serotonin! Di...
Hey Everyone, I hope you are all having a lovely weekend so far. It's Sunday morning and I saw some lovely plants when I went for a walk earlier.
And I just started watching my Sunday morning highlight,
And he said a remarkable thing - that getting dirt under your fingernails is a great anti-depressant! Who knew?
So I have set up a new group consisting of one member (again LOL π π π ) #whoknew
And it's apparently true too:
Getting down and dirty is the best βupperβ β Serotonin
Getting your hands dirty in the garden can increase your serotonin levels β contact with soil and a specific soil bacteria, Mycobacterium vaccae, triggers the release of serotonin in our brain according to research. Serotonin is a happy chemical, a natural anti-depressant and strengthens the immune system. Lack of serotonin in the brain causes depression.

@plantstate So sorry for your loss . Iβm sure glad youβve found a healthy outlet . I too am a bare handed gardener .
@itsjordan wow Jordon, those two are worthy of #whoknew
I think even shapes which remind us of plants can have a calming effect! Again, #whoknew
And I just saw how naughty my Devils Ivy π has been (I don't tend to call it Golden Pothos but it is a much nicer name. It actually put down roots in 3 different pots of other plants as it snaked its way along.
But apparently devils Ivy is good for you #whoknew

@Seymour itβs making friends!! π it was lonely
@itsjordan 3 friends !!! I think my devils ivy is a bit too clingy π it needed to learn attachment theory π
@Seymour if the first friend is busy, it has a backup, and if the backup is busy thereβs another backup friend!!! π your devils ivy is a serial friend maker
Lmao you guys crack me up! π€£π€£ I'm glad to finally know the science begins what I have suspected for so long! π₯° I don't think it's a coincidence that many of my planyu friends, myself included, came to be #plantaddict(s) after suffering with it mental health! I know my jungle helps me on a daily basis! πππ€© My hour or two of doing the rounds and doing yoga surrounded by my little green friends (because I wake up stupidly early! Lol literally the crack of dawn usually! Which is currently about 3.45am n Edinburgh π€¦ββοΈπ€£ though I don't effort get up till shit 5.30... long lie for me haha π€£) is what recharges my batteries far more than them couple of crappy hours sleep I've had! π€£π€£ Makes me able to face the day! ππ₯°ππ₯°π Xxx
@Seymour I am a walking advertisement for gardening with my bare hands. (I never understood what some gardeners wear gloves π€). Caring for my outdoor gardens has lifted me out of a relentless depression which plagued me for YEARS after my husband died.
@Seymour I sure am proof of that having seasonal depression . I cut my nails back and work in my gardens for a bit every day . The sun helps boost your vitamin D levels also . Gardening outside is a win win . Thanks for sharing
@Seymour I read that also just the other week And green has always been my favourite colour πeven my eyeshadow I wear is green ,browns earthy colours
@Seymour OMG this 1st picture is freakin hilarious π
@JenniB81 It seems like us humans are similar. We go through a lot of the same struggles. Itβs nice to connect with people because the world seems less lonely. π€
