Mould on surface of moss pole?
Hi all! Hope everyone is doing great today! βοΈπΏ I am completely new to moss poles, Iβve got a 3d printed pole filled with sphagnum moss currently, and have discovered itβs starting to mould! How can I fix and prevent this from happening again? #MossPole #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #SucculentLove #PlantTherapy #GrowLights #OrchidLovers #NewPlantMom #MonsteraMonday #PlantCorner #PlantShelfie #OutdoorGrowing

Your pole looks so cool. You can mix one part hydrogen peroxide with nine parts water in a spray bottle. Spray it a couple times of day until the mold is gone. I know you can put stronger peroxide on a cloth and put it directly on the mold but you would have to look at the percentage since I'm not for sure what it is supposed to be. Good luck with getting rid of it. I think you caught it early enough to not cause to much hassle in getting rid of it.
@HayleyQ This is just theory, but it could partially be due to the pole design. It is amazingly creative and cool, but it doesn't breathe. If you take note of other moss pole designs, they are very airy with many holes. Unless the back side of yours looks like a fish net, then I'm thinking it could be staying wet too long. This may be okay from the plant's perspective and may make its roots adhere to the moss more quickly, and maybe you won't struggle with keeping the moss moist with this design, but it could also be a mold source you'll need to watch for and treat periodically. Since mold spores are airborne, even after getting rid of it, you could get new mold in the future. At least you are paying attention to catch it.
That said, I have had regular moss poles get small patches of mold, and I just used hydrogen peroxide spray on it as mentioned by @Tisforthistle. I used straight 3% spray.
The YouTube-er, moss pole Sydney, also claims that sun-drying the moss really well before use takes care of that. It's too late to try that, though.
I love the design. A String of Frogs (mini ivy) would also look completely awesome on this!
