That chicken one always gets me! 😻😹💚 The plant is so perfect with the pot!

I got a Gasteria 'Little Warty' yesterday and he was already hard at work before I even spotted him. Look at three little Gasteria pups in his soil! I got four plants for the price of one 🤭

My son found this little guy for $1 a month or so ago. It looked rough and had what might have been scale but we treated it and kept it quarantined in his room. He’s 5 and he carefully monitored it and let me know if it was dry etc.  We noticed yesterday it’s got some tiny baby leaves growing.   So it might pull through after all!! The pot says Blue Bird Jade.

So since losing most of my succulents my fellow students and faculty have been super nice and have been gifting me new little ones to adopt, which is so so sweet! Back in the Fall I repotted my propeller plant and he threw a huge temper tantrum. He lost most of his leaves. Now there are two itty bitty leaves starting! 💜

@RJG thanks Drew! @AC73LoveCats over my winter break someone carelessly left the windows open in the grad lounge at my school where I foster most of my succulents, since my apartment is tiny and dark, and almost all of them, including my props, froze to death. Who would be absurd enough to open windows in Ohio in December when it was 6 degrees out during that storm is absolutely beyond me (thinking it was a custodian), but everyone has been very sympathetic and have been so super nice! I was of course devastated, and people knew how much I loved them. Everyone loved having the plants in there, they said it made the place more cozy, so they were eager to help!

@UnbiasedTree Melissa, that is horrible. Maybe someone will confess they did it, for whatever reason, and buy you more new ones. When I was in grad school at U of Toledo I once had my plants stolen from the student office. It was the day we were moving the office, and we had everything out of there except the plants, which I was coming in to collect the next day. The office did not have a lock on the door. So I come in the next day and all my plants were gone! I was devastated. So I thought to put an ad in the campus newspaper and made it funny, like, my plants are being held for ransom, will pay! Or something like that. I had no idea if the thief would read the ad. Very soon after, I got a call and the person said they thought the plants were abandoned. Then I found them back in the empty office. WHAT A TOTAL RELIEF!!!!!  😅🥳@RJG Thanks. I frequently forget to tag.

@AC73LoveCats omg Jane what a crazy story! It's brutal out here in schools 😂 I'm so glad you got your plants back! I would have been crushed. I doubt anyone will admit to leaving them open, but at least they're staying closed now! Everyone in the school knows about my love of plants and my succulent tragedy lol, I'm sure word got to the guilty party haha

@UnbiasedTree Yes, one of them, an asparagus fern, was from the mother of my best friend. I always admired it at their house, and later she chose to give it to me and that felt so good.  Now years later, I kept that plant a long time. I have a newer asparagus fern now and I always remember the original one when I water it.
      I am sorry your culprit hasn’t come forward yet. Maybe someone will shame them into it. Even if it was a total mistake, they could (kind of) redeem themselves by getting you more plants or $ for them, even anonymously.

Pretty sure that's a lovely 'Hobbit' Jade, they get reddish tips from sun stress.

Here are a few of mine. I love how big my aloe is getting. Ric Rac cactus is going crazy. My Thanksgiving Cactus is still giving me buds! And then look at all the new growth on my raven zz!

#HappyPlants #NewGrowth #WhatTheSuccWednesday #PlantMail Good Morning everyone hope you’re all doing well. Look 👀 what came in the mail yesterday,  the tiny, tiniest little cactus I have ever gotten. I added the quarter for a visual comparison. I also wanted to show off the lovely 🥰 succulents I got from my Secret Santa @AC73LoveCats Pictures 2 & 3, picture 4 is a Lithop I have had since October of ‘22. In the last picture are a couple more of the Secret Santa from @AC73LoveCats I hope I can keep them alive and in good health for a long time ! I have purchased a large 8.5 » round shallow terracotta planter, that is where I want to repot them in once they get a little bit more established!

First, my Orion is currently putting out its THIRD round of blooms since August! My VSOP is happy as a clam and has new growth everyday. Final, my perle con nurnberg has gotten huge!

I think the Echeveria Orion is actually a 'Chroma' Hybrid of some sort?

I have an Orion and the leaves are thicker w/ powdery farina and pink tint.

I’m really excited about these little guys! The seller has had the mother plant in his family since the 1920’s, so it feels like having a piece of history 😂

@roxyvivien sorry I had to delete my previous comment. Ok, the structure of the Chrima’s leaf is different compare to Orion’s. It is much wider and does not have layer of farina. Also it is reflections light too much, unles Orion that has only matt leaf.  I would say, that chroma close to Melaco.

@vvvelo 😂 I will have to figure that out. I bought the biggest one at a local grocery store that was way overwatered, I ended up having to pulling off numerous leaves. The other two had names with them and I may have them incorrectly identified on Greg.

(Oh actually the burros tail was at a nursery😊)So I grabbed them along with the Monstera standleyanas and the alocasia silver dragons (that we are debating if they’re nutrient deficient or variegated on another Greg post 😂)

The succulent selection is pretty horrible at the big box stores here in LA.

I see crappiest stuff at Home Depot and Lowe's... I don't know why... you'd think they be better in Southern California!

I've heard about this amazing wholesale flower /plant market in downtown LA about 20 mins away where all the stores and restaurants get their plants. It's open to the public for tickets if you don't have a wholesale license but it has crazy odd hours like 2am-8am and 5am-12pm on random days.

I heard you have to get there really early during the week to get the best stuff.

I'm not sure my partner would appreciate more succulents in the house or outside  lol... but I could go there saying that I was looking for herbs for the herb garden I'm growing for him because he likes to cook... and while I'm there some succulents can just randomly jump in my cart! 😆💁🏽‍♀️

@vvvelo I do because i can easily set them in a cute pot and size up or check for damage without moving roots around. It’s very rare that I pot them in another one. It’s easier in the long term. Once they multiply, I can switch them to another nursery pot a bit larger. I only do this with the smaller ones. I really do like only black pots. It’s rare that I purchase any decorative ones. The biggest reason: I have about 300 plants and they are multiplying. Can you imagine having all different shaped pots for each plant? I’d need a warehouse for that.

My Arctic Lace is growing new leaves. 
I scalped the top of my Xantine Rose a little while ago and she’s finally starting to push out a new baby.
My Ech Fireglow is showing off his new growth. 
I just love all of the different leaf shapes and sizes.

@AC73LoveCats thats a crested senecio. Crested chalk sticks (true mermaids tail) succulent. It just arrived from my vendor. It’s hard to keep but worth the work. I take no credit for it. It’s the absolute pickiest plant. Worse than calathea. I promise!

@vvvelo no worries. I use different mixes for different plants types. Some roots do better in a coco/peat mix than a gritty mix over pure succulent soil. The finer the roots, the less gritty the mix. Once they get large enough, they get a new mix. Sometimes, the roots are just too delicate to remove because they are fibrous and those are easily damaged. This is when I’d rather not lose the plant but I loosen it up and amend with a better mix so they grow into it.

@AC73LoveCats the Cape of South Africa. It’s a Winter Grower because Winter in Africa is Summer in the USA and vice versa. It’s actively growing right now as I am in Texas. It’s extremely sensitive to humidity and temperature changes. It will quickly develop gray rot and decline during USA Summers in high humidity. I will be setting up a heat shelf for it with automated lighting and ventilation in my office so I can keep an eye on it. It’ll share the space with my rare winter growers. 😄
