Why are both of my monsteras’ latest leaves smaller than ...

I first noticed my #MonsteraAlbo’s latest leaf was starting to open up even though it was smaller than the other leaves. I thought this was because its a cutting and as newer leaves come they will get bigger.

But now I noticed my other #Monstera is also startling to loosen up its newest leaf but the stem is still short and the leaf doesn’t look as big as the previous one.

Is this a sign that something is wrong? I remember reading something about how if the leaves start getting smaller the plant is sick?

Smaller leaves indicate a lack of resources, either water, light, or nutrients (aka fertilizer). If the new leaves aren't growing large enough, one of those three things is lacking. I know mine love love love bright indirect light. Have you made any changes to their location? I just love watching these leaves unfurl, so hopefully it is just part of their growth process! β˜€οΈπŸŒ±
@LovingSunnyAZ i haven’t made any changes to the albo, but I did move the larger monstera further away from the window because the sun can get pretty intense in my home as the days get longer. I wanted to avoid its leaves getting sun damage. But it ended up being pretty cloudy and rainy the past few days so it didn’t get as much light as usual. This is the only change that’s happened… I guess that’s why this new leaf is smaller?
@LovingSunnyAZ I also have never fertilized them… should I? I’ve never fertilized any plants so I have no idea where to start.. guess this is something I should look into
@nila I’m thinking is is just the change in location then, as they prefer more light. May be an adjustment period for them. Give them some extra TLC and enjoy β˜€οΈπŸŒ±
@LovingSunnyAZ Thank you! 😊

@nila Causes of monstera have small include over or under watering, lack of nutrients, lack of light, low humidity, harsh temperature, and overfertilization. Making use of an inappropriate pot or using the wrong soil mix can also contribute to your monstera having smaller leaves. Also, You can make your plant grow faster by giving it bright, indirect light, fertilizing it with a water-soluble houseplant fertilizer, and watering it properly. Also, you should remember to flush your Monstera periodically to remove extra nutrients. Extra nutrients can damage the leaves and roots of your plant.
@nila Hi! I got this natural fertilizer recipe online and my plants are LOVING IT. Get your coffee grounds (let it cool firt) add 1 tsp of cinnamon powder and 1 cup of sparkling water. You can give it to any of your plants each 2 weeks! They will be very happy :)
@nila I wouldn’t use coffee grounds because of the acidity in it.
