Aphids... womp womp
#Kalanchoe hey all! My Flaming Katy got aphids, and I would love advice! I just treated with rubbing alcohol diluted with water. 1 to 1. I used q tips to really clean as much as I could, im sure I missed some. Just praying its not in the soil and roots. I sprayed with dawn and water, and now im just letting them sit. Then im going to rinse them in a few hours. Were getting Bonide Captin Jack's Deadbug Brew. It should be here in a few days. Legit mortified because I hate bugs. The smaller ones are propigations ive been working on. The two long ones were just transferred to soil yesterday from water. But they all came from the big plant. She got knocked over in a bad wind storm and I wanted to try to revive her babies, and theyve been doing great. Just had no clue they had mealys till now. Thank you in advance, and happy gardening!

Iβm sorry your Flaming Katy has Aphids. π I heard theyβre hard to eliminate.
(1) Use a wet paper towel to remove the aphids and the sap off the leaves, because it attracts ants and they will also attack your plant. Also, kill the aphids, so they wonβt infect other plants.
(2) Use The Bonide Captain Jackβs deadbug brew Insecticidal Soap. Follow instructions. Some insecticidal soaps or sprays instruct you to use it in the morning when the sun canβt harm (burn) the leaves. So follow instructions.
(3). Dust the leaves with Diatomaceous Earth foodgrade. (This is my favorite). Wear a mask and goggles because itβs a very fine sharp powder that cuts insects and cause them to become dehydration and die. You donβt want it to irritate your eyes or lungs. The bad thing about using this product outside is it kills even the beneficial insects. But this can be used as a preventative.
(4) Use Neem Oil. (Another one of my favorite) You can also use it as a preservative. But follow instructions, which will instruct you to use it in the morning.

Thanks so much @Ada3 ! I ended up getting the neem oil instead of the deadbug Brew because I was reading on how it can be more harmful to house plants or plants in pots. So I went with the neem oil in the same brand thats said it was good for all plants including houseplants. I think I got most of them with the alcohol, but im definitely treat with the neem later today. I appreciate your advice and the link so much!
