Do you let water sit on top after watering? You may have to treat it with peroxide. Try not to get water on top of the trunk. If you do, dry it with a napkin.

@Thumbelina you're welcome. You might also be able to treat it with cinnamon but I'd test a small section first to make sure it doesn't dry it out too much. Such a cool plant, I just discovered them.
